Hi everyone, it is Jen from The Mad House, A Thrifty Mum and Frugal and Fun here. I am taking over A Frugal Family today whilst Cass and the mini frugals are sunning themselves.
Sun is something we seen to be lacking, so why not make some rain catchers and make the most of the wet weather we are having
Materials:
Large bottle (A 2 litre pop bottle or a water bottle)
Scissors
Wooden spoon
Ruler
Permanent marker
Instructions:
We took a couple of water bottles and I cut the top third off and we turned it upside down and fitted it in the bottom two thirds of the bottle to use as a funnel. It is best that the adult does this bit as the bottles can be sharp.
I then taped the jagged edge at the top with some electricians tape.
The boys decided to decorate the bottles with electricians tape and this is some thing simple enough for them to do on their own and they liked to make the bottles colourful. It needs to be electricians tape rather than masking tape as the bottles are going to be kept outside.
You then make a permanent marker and ruler and mark out 1 cm lines on the wooden spoon to use as a measure of the water.
It is easier to mark the spoons rather than the bottles and this wasy if you only have one bottle you can use more than one wooden spoon.
The boys decided that there spoons were going to be weathermen, so stuck googly eyes and wool hair on them.
This is a great craft to do on a rainy day and then use though out the summer to record the rainfall with your children.
