I do a lot of my Christmas shopping online because (a) it’s much more enjoyable to shop from your settee than to brave the cold and the masses of stressed out shoppers and (b) it’s so much easier to find bargains online than it is in the shops.
I love Amazon for shopping online but the one thing that annoys me about Amazon is how much the prices fluctuate from day to day and even from hour to hour. As annoying as this can be though, it does mean that you can get some great deals if you are on the ball.
This year, I’ve discovered a site called CamelCamelCamel which has helped me find some of the best deals on Amazon for what I’m after and it saved me so much money that I can even forgive it’s ridiculous name! 😉
Basically, you enter the Amazon link to the product you are interested in and CamelCamelCamel will tell you the history of the price of the item so you can see what the highest and lowest selling price has been over the last few months. You can use that information to decide whether the price it’s at now is a good price or whether you may get a better price if you leave it a while.
You can even set it to send you an email alert if the price gets reduced to a certain price. That way you can buy it as soon as it gets to that price and you’ll have grabbed yourself a bargain.
For example, a box set DVD that I’m after for Miss Frugal for Christmas has been as high as £16.69 and as low as £9.25 in the last year. It’s currently somewhere between the two prices and I have an alert set to email me if it gets as low as £10.00 again!
I’d rather the pounds were in my pocket than in someone elses!
