I’m not a fan of any ride that goes faster than the carousel but I do have two children who are a little (although not much) braver than me and who love theme parks of any description. So when we planned a visit to Blackpool with our friends we decided to take them to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for the afternoon.
I haven’t been to the Pleasure Beach for many, many years and it’s changed beyond all recognition to me. For some reason, I had it in my head that it would be a much scaled down version of a theme park – more of a fair but with bigger rides if you know what I mean. Anyone who’s visited recently will know that’s about as far from the truth as is possible!
Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a theme park that rivals any other theme park we’ve been to and we absolutely loved it. There’s such a great variety of rides for all levels of bravery and some of the rollercoasters and rides looked absolutely terrifying and judging by the screams we heard, they were 😉
We didn’t really ‘do’ any of the bigger rides but we had a fantastic afternoon. Just because there’s a lot of bigger thrill rides doesn’t mean that the park isn’t suitable for younger or less brave children. For starters the height restrictions are great – you only need to be 132c, to go on all but the Go-Karts which is great if you do have a thrill seeking child.
Nickelodeon Land, which is like a theme park within a theme park, was perfect for the less brave among us as it had plenty of rides that were great for younger children which were a little scary so they still felt like they were being brave and got in plenty of screams.
There’s a brilliant offer on throughout September for a wristband £20 which is a great deal and you could easily spend a full day in there and still not go on everything. They also have the option to do fast track to avoid the queues which we usually would do but the queues were reasonable for everything other than the new Wallace and Gromit ride so we didn’t bother to upgrade
BTW – We did go on much more rides but as we had one of the kids’ friends with us so I haven’t included the pictures of those ones – as it is, I’ve cropped him out of most of the pictures above so he’ll look at them and think he dreamed being there with us 😉
Disclosure – Thank you to the lovely folks at Blackpool Pleasure Beach who offered us free wristbands.
