Yeay - we've successfully got through another week without illness! I think the germs may have finally got the hint and left us ;-)It's a bit of a busy week this week, I started my new job today so am working full time for a little while until I'm up to speed with my new role. I'm really looking forward to the job itself but not sure about the longer hours - even if it is only temporary. I have a feeling that the slow cooker is going to really earn it's keep this week!Monday - Tonight we had fish and chips using the lovely breaded fish fillets that we got reduced from £4.00 to £1.45 … [Read more...]

#CookItBlogIt – Fluffy Pancakes….
Welcome to this week's #CookItBlogIt. It was great to see so many of you joining in with last week's link up over at Crazy with Twins and I hope even more people will be joining in this week. We've set up a Pinterest board to Pin all your fantastic recipes and this week I'm going to try and Stumble all of the entries so hopefully you'll get some new visitors too. I look forward to seeing what you're all cooking this week....I'm sharing a recipe today that I know I've shared with you before (probably every pancake day for the last couple of years I expect) but it's so good that I knew … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan – the comfort food week….
Why is it on cold dark nights like we're having at the minute, when you just want to come home and snuggle on the settee with a mug of hot chocolate, we seem to have more planned than usual? Answers on the back of a postcard please! Another busy week coming up this week for us so if we have any hopes of eating properly, the slow cooker is going to be earning it's keep over the next few days. Sunday - We finally got around to trying the pulled pork recipe this week and it was totally worth the wait! I'll be blogging the recipe later in the week when the new recipe linky that I'll be running … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan – the last stretch before payday….
We've got another busy week ahead of us this week and seeing as January pay day still hasn't arrived, I'll be buying as little as possible when I go shopping for this week. I try and make sure I always have plenty of what I call 'the essentials' in the cupboard - things like rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes, tinned tuna and stock cubes along with things like mince and chicken in the freezer because you can always make something if you have these in. But we're even starting to run low on these things and this week's meal plan will probably finish off my supplies so I'm looking forward to pay day … [Read more...]
A mince themed meal plan….
Hands up who's struggling this month? No matter how organised we were for Christmas, we're still finding it difficult to make December's early pay stretch for the five and a half weeks till January's pay day. We've had some unexpected things to pay out (car battery, school trip deposit and musical instruments) which has made things even more difficult so I need to keep even closer control than usual over our food budget this month.I managed to get a big bag of minced steak mince from Tesco just before closing yesterday reduced to just £2.64 so you can guess what's going to feature very … [Read more...]
The first meal plan of the year….
Meal planning is hard enough over Christmas but add to that illness and a complete lack of energy to even write a meal plan, let along stick to it and you end up with a complete meal planning failure! So, now that we're on the mend (mostly) and the kids are back at school, it's time to get back on track and try and spend even less than usual to make up for the last few weeks. As well as trying to be super-frugal and only use things that are in, I'm going to try and cook a new meal at least once a fortnight (once a week seems like too much hard work at the minute) so I *may* attempt pulled … [Read more...]
