It's been a few weeks since I've actually sat and typed up our weekly menu but I have been sticking to my meal planning (mostly) and using my meal planning wall planner ;-)We're on countdown to our holidays (6 weeks to go) so I'm going to be extra frugal this week and try and have another 'shopping from our cupboards' week which is even easier than usual thanks to the brilliant bargains I've got from the reduced section in our supermarket lately! In one shopping trip, I got two packs of chicken fillets for 60p each, 2 haddock fillets for 30p, 2 river cobbler fillets for 30p and some … [Read more...]

Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Paella….
I'm not sure if I've said on here before but I started following the Slimming World plan in January although I don't go to the meetings as I can't really justify to myself spending £4 or £5 a week just to be weighed and have someone tell me how good/bad I'm doing (I'm sure it's more than that but you know what I mean). So far I've lost a stone and apart from the occasional blip, I've found it really easy to stick to and I'm learning that the majority of meals that I cook can easily be adapted with a few tweaks here and there.Sunday - HM Paella.Monday - Slow Cooker Chilli with rice or … [Read more...]
Meal Planning Monday – Shopping from our cupboards….
Thanks to a rather expensive (but apparently essential) car repair last week, we need to try and spend as little money as possible between now and pay-day. Luckily, my freezer has quite a lot of reduced bargains that we've picked up from the supermarket at the end of the day recently so we shouldn't starve....Monday: Sausage, egg, chips and beans.Tuesday: Macaroni cheese.Wednesday: Salmon Fishcakes in buns with homemade potato wedges and salad.Thursday: Either minced beef and onions … [Read more...]

Christmas Trees – Colour coordinated or not….
Once upon a time, before I had children, I used to have a lovely colour coordinated tree. In its former life, it was a display tree in a shop and I was lucky enough to be there doing my last minute shopping on Christmas Eve when it was being taken down to make space for the after Christmas sale. I picked it up for next to nothing including all of the pretty lilac and silver ornaments and although it never looked as pretty when we decorated it, it still looked gorgeous.Gradually though, the children's decorations have begun to take over and every year it's looking less and less like … [Read more...]
