You know how I've said before that you should tailor your meal plan to what you have in your cupboards and any bargains that you find when you go shopping? Well this week's meal plan is the perfect example of that. I went shopping armed with my meal plan shopping list, found lots of bargains and ended up changing my plan completely. I bought four packs of diced chicken, reduced from £3.89 to 78p each along with some cocktail sausages reduced from £1.00 to 25p and some naan breads reduced to 19p. I also managed to get a big pack of Basa fish fillets for £2.95 so I've had a quick rethink … [Read more...]

Packed Lunch Ideas….
When Miss Frugal started 'big' school she didn't want to take a packed lunch as most of her friends were going to be on school dinners and the people on packed lunches have to sit on separate tables (what's that all about?) so we gave in and paid the £1.85 a day for her to have school dinners. She came home every night and told us excitedly what she'd had and every night I'd tell her that some grated carrots and cheese with a wrap followed by a small cookie was not enough for dinner but the next day she'd have exactly the same thing again! So by the time Master Frugal (the fussiest eater … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Rubber Chicken….
The kids have been back at school for almost two weeks now and we're settling down into a bit of a routine. As the kids get older, there's more activities that they want to join in with which means that some nights, I'm just a glorified taxi driver ;-) I'm not complaining really as they have chosen the clubs they want to go to and they really enjoy going to them, it just makes it a bit difficult for us to have a 'proper' meal some nights - I'll be making a lot of this weeks meals in the slow cooker so I can prepare it all in before I go to work in the morning. This is next week's menu … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Jambalaya
Well it's been a while since I've sat down and done a proper meal plan, in fact, I don't think I've done one since before the kids broke up for the Summer holidays and I've been looking forward to getting back into it. As the kids aren't back to school until next week, I'm having a bit of a lazy week with my meal plan. I made easy mince and dumplings yesterday in the slow cooker and I'll add a bit of mash to the top of the leftovers of the mince from that to make an easy cottage pie for Wednesday. Thursday is chilli, cheese wraps using some of last weeks leftover chilli or if I really … [Read more...]
How to get the most out of the Summer Holidays….
Most of us are a couple of weeks into the School Holidays now and if you're kids are anything like mine, the novelty of lazing round the house and playing out has started to wear off.I spend the first two weeks of the holidays at work so it was up to my dad to entertain them most days and to be fair, he did a great job with trips to the beach, the park and even a day trip to Edinburgh but now I have a couple of weeks off, they have high expectations that we're going to be doing something different every day. Being the fantastic mother that I am (or is it more just because I'll take any … [Read more...]
Teachers Presents – Do you or Don’t you?
With the kids breaking up on Friday, they're starting to pester me about end of year thank you presents for their teachers ;-)Miss Frugal has 3 (yes, 3) teachers that she wants to buy for as she has her own class teacher, her favourite teaching assistant and because she has most of her lessons with the year above, she also wants to buy for that teacher aswell. Master Frugal has only 1 to buy for but even so, that means I have 4 presents to sort out by Friday. In the past (pre frugal days), I just used to pop to Tescos on the way to picking the kids up from school on the last day of term … [Read more...]
