If you're struggling for an idea for a present for the chocolate lover in your life you could always try making them your own homemade sweet hamper. We make one every year for Mr Frugal and it's not only excellent value if you compare ours to the ones you can buy in the shops, it also means that you can pick and choose the chocolates and sweets that you put in it.We've been stashing the chocolate away for the last month or so whenever we've seen a bargain - I think the above little lot cost less than £6.00 and we have extra left from some of the multipacks to eat as a reward for making … [Read more...]

Homemade Cinnamon stick tree decorations….
We've gone for a bit of a change this year with a red and gold colour schemed tree in place of the usual lilac and silver ornaments that we use and surprisingly (because I loved the old colours), I really like it. It feels a lot more traditional and makes me want to fill it with lovely rustic style decorations so I'm on a mission to make some this month. The first decorations I've made to hang on there are some lovely cinnamon stick decorations that took me minutes to make but look and smell great on the tree. Cinnamon sticks aren't very expensive and I've just had a quick look online at … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan and my homemade tomato sauce recipe….
So, I could be tempting fate here but for the first time since Christmas, we've had a good run of 5 days without illness (not including an abdominal migraine attack and a bit of man flu). Add to that the fact that it's half term and the weather forecast is looking OK and you have a very happy me!If you managed to read yesterday's post about Miss Frugal you'll know that I'm having to rethink the food that I include in my meal plans to make sure that there's no processed meat in anything I cook - which is a harder than it sounds! Quick teas like chicken nuggets or burgers are out unless I … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Homemade Burgers….
I never bothered with a meal plan last week as I was feeling a bit bleugh (if that's even a word), and as a result, without even looking at the receipts from last week's food shopping I can tell you that we went way over our weekly budget. As we didn't have a meal plan to stick to, we bought random things when we did our main shop and then got home and realised that the things we'd bought didn't really make up a weeks worth of meals. This meant that through the week we ended up making two extra trips to the shop for extra bits, both times buying more than what we went for. So this week, … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Homemade Fishcakes….
I went to the supermarket this afternoon with my little shopping list having planned our meals for this coming week but when I saw the overflowing reduced section I had a complete rethink and changed my plan completely based on the bargains I got. Homemade Snowman Soup {with a free printable tag}….
Snowman soup is one of my favourite things about Christmas! We've been making our version of snowman soup, both as a treat for us and as a little homemade gift for family and friends, ever since the kids were very little and it's become one of our favourite family traditions.I'm a fan of making snowman soup as a gift for people because (a) it doesn't cost much to make, (b) it's fun and a little bit unusual and most importantly of all, (c) it's really easy to make yet it doesn't have to look homemade.I do love the idea of homemade Christmas gifts but I must admit that when I make … [Read more...]
