Every week I share five frugal things that I've done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life. Before I start though, as always feel that I should say that being frugal to me is about getting the best value for our money - it's not about doing without for us or about not having nice things. We all have different financial situations and we're all frugal for different reasons. ;-)1) It's been a while since I started one of these posts with some bargain flowers but I … [Read more...]

Batch Cooking – One afternoon, twelve family meals….
Batch cooking is something I promised myself I'd get better at this year so, on Saturday, I had my first batch cooking session in ages and now have twelve meals in our freezer ready to use - just think how much time that's going to save me. I'm so lucky to have the freezer space I do - we have one freezer as part of the fridge freezer, one under-counter freezer and one big freezer in the garage - but I really could be so much cleverer when it comes to using the space. It's not that I don't already do a lot of batch cooking but usually, I just cook more food than we need and … [Read more...]
January in my garden….
Remember my last garden update back in October? My fence had just blown down in a storm and we were waiting for someone to come and build us a new, improved fence.Well, we now have our new improved fence and even though January isn't exactly the best time to do much in the garden, there are a few little jobs that we're getting in with this month.First things first, we have a new addition to the garden although it's debatable whether he's going to be a permanent fixture...Even though it's a container-grown tree and 'should' be able to continue growing happily in a container … [Read more...]

Every year at this time, I have a good think about some of the things I want to change or improve in our lives and it seems to have become a bit of a tradition that I share them with you all here.Usually, my annual resolutions are very similar but this year, I feel like they're a bit different because our priorities are changing. We've reached a point in our life where we have no debt other than our mortgage and we want to start to be more grown up with our money. 1. Meal Planning Ok, I know I say meal planning is mentioned in my resolutions every single year but this year it's a … [Read more...]

Every week I share five frugal things that I've done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life. Before I start though, I do want to say that being frugal to me is about getting the best value for our money - it's not about doing without for us or about not having nice things. We all have different financial situations and we're all frugal for different reasons - we're frugal so we can afford to do nice things together.1) We're going for a bit of a homemade Christmas … [Read more...]
