Every year at this time, I get lots of emails from you lovely readers asking my advice about whether I think packed lunches are cheaper and better value than school dinners. As you can imagine, this usually prompts me to write a post about packed lunches but last week, when I started to write my annual 'packed lunches are awesome' post I realised that the post I published last year covered everything I wanted to say. So rather than bore you all write it again, I thought I would simply re-share last year's post today and work on a different kind of awesome packed lunches post (keep an eye … [Read more...]

Super easy and versatile scone recipe….
A couple of days ago I saw a photo of a delicious looking fruity scone on my Facebook timeline and ever since then I've been craving one, preferably with some lovely strawberry jam and some clotted cream smothered on it.The problem is that I'm the only person in the house who likes fruity scones and as soon as I said I was going to bake some, everyone else put in a request for some cheese scones. I have a really quick and easy scone recipe from way back when for plain scones so I decided to use that and adapt it a little bit so I could make fruit scones and cheese scones using just one … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {5th August 2016}….
1) This week I made a batch of our homemade Febreze to give the curtains and carpets a nice little refresh. It really is lovely and refreshing and is a great alternative to the shop bought versions which cost a lot more than my budget version!Make your own here.2) This week I cancelled Miss Frugal's mobile phone contract and switched to a great PAYG deal with EE. For £15 every 30 days she'll get 4GB data, unlimited texts and 250 minutes. Her current contract is £23.99 a month so that's a saving of £8 a month for double the data and believe me, that girl can get through … [Read more...]
Frugal Sweet Treats
Nothing I make is complicated, I don't have the skills of the patience for that but I can guarantee that everything you'll find on here is delicious and practically impossible to mess up (unless like me you get distracted by Instagram and forget to take things out of the oven in time). Most of the recipes here can be done by the kids and regularly are in this house - the chocolate brownies and the star biscuits in the collage above are Master Frugal's handywork and the cupcakes and scones are his sisters. They might be older at 13 and 11 but they've been cooking since they were old enough … [Read more...]
Frugal Family Meals and Snacks
Feeding a family on a budget is never easy, especially when your family all like different foods like mine do but I think I've pretty much mastered it these days so I thought I'd have a bit of a revamp of my recipe pages. On this page you'll find all of my savoury frugal food which includes soups, meals and snacks which I hope will inspire you to get cooking. If there's something in the recipe that you don't have in, try and use something you have in as a substitute or use your judgement and just leave it out if you don't think it'll make a major difference to the finished … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {29th July 2016}….
1) We have a vegetable patch! It's not a huge patch but we've claimed a small corner of the garden where we've planted carrots, sweetcorn, lettuce and spring onions in a raised bed that we built, I've also moved my herb pot over to that corner along with two tomato plants and a chilli plant.2) We went to a BBQ at the weekend and decided to take something different to the usual burgers and sausages that everyone usually takes so we made a zesty green been and feta rice salad using some leftover rice and some random things from the fridge.I'll be sharing the recipe for this … [Read more...]
