1. You might remember from last week's post that we had a cheeky weekend away? Well we had a great time and I'm pleased to say that it was the sort of weekend where we didn't really spend any more money than we would have at home. Apart from our entrance fee to the Gretna Green museum, we used our English Heritage cards to visit Carlisle Castle and spent the rest of the time using the facilities at the holiday park where we were staying. We didn't eat out at all as the kitchen had everything I needed to cook just as well as I could at home. We didn't even go for a drink or to the … [Read more...]

Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {6th November 2015}….
1. Miss Frugal really wanted to go to a Firework display last night but the one in our town wasn't on this year and the only ones we knew about in nearby towns are notorious for the gridlocked traffic getting out of the areas afterwards. So instead of driving to one of these displays, we put our wellies on, wrapped up and headed to the beach with the dog where we got to watch hundreds of fireworks going off across the whole town.We didn't even have our usual sparklers in the garden this year but I liked last years photos that much that I thought I'd share them again. ;-)2. We … [Read more...]
#DealOfTheDay – Elf on a Shelf….
Over the past few years the slightly American tradition of Elf on a Shelf has become more and more popular here in the UK and every Christmas my Facebook and Instagram timelines are full of naughty little elves getting up to all sorts of mischief. If you've not heard of Elf on a Shelf then you're probably wondering what on earth I'm on about ;-)It's basically a tradition where you have a family elf who comes to visit on the 1st December and stays up until Christmas Eve when Santa will take him back home with him. The elf is supposed to be keeping an eye on the kids and making sure … [Read more...]
Days Out: Richmond Castle….
We've had a lovely day at Richmond Castle today and even though the sun didn't make an appearance we still had a brilliant afternoon. At this point I should probably tell you about the history of this 900 (I think) year old castle but to be honest I didn't read a single sign as I was too busy exploring the many little tunnels and staircases around the castle ruins and snapping the usual pictures of the kids climbing everywhere they possibly could. There were no special events going on and there were hardly any other people there as you can see from the photo above which we took from a … [Read more...]
Ten feelings that money can’t buy….
I often think of ideas for posts at random times and I have various different ways to record the ideas to make sure I don't forget them - I always have a notebook in my bag in case I want to go oldstyle (or if the battery's dead on my phone), I write ideas in the notes section of my phone or if I'm near to my laptop then I save a draft post in my blog with just the title of the post I want to write. In an ideal world, I'd have time to then go back and actually write all of the posts that are sitting there but it doesn't always happen! This post is a prime example as I started writing it … [Read more...]
10 clever ways to save money as a pet owner….
I can't remember what out house was like before we got our dog but I can tell you that our beautiful Bichon Frise Buddy has completed our family perfectly and we can't imagine not having him now. He's quite a high maintenance little pooch if I'm honest but we knew that before we got him because we researched the best breed for our family extensively. The thing that sold me on him was the fact that he wouldn't shed his hair everywhere (it had nothing to do with that cute face, honest!) and the fact that, as a breed, they're known to be a very friendly and playful dog. Before we got him, … [Read more...]
