Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. Not massively money saving but this morning we walked into town instead of taking the car - only about a mile and a half each way but we saved petrol and car parking and even more importantly, we had a lovely catch up while we were walking.2. We decided to make some homemade bracelets using the beads we bought off a lovely lady on our local Facebook selling site. The beads were a massive bargain at just £12 for two big bags of them - there are literally hundreds, all as pretty as these:We've now got some last minute Birthday gifts ready … [Read more...]

Five ways to make your freezer work for you….
You don't need to have a big freezer to make your freezer work for you - trust me, I know this from experience! With a little bit of organisation, the smallest of freezers can help make life easier for you. Batch cooking This is a great one, especially if you use your slow cooker a lot. I regularly make extra portions when I'm cooking things like chilli, mince and bolognaise and I pop a family sized portion in the freezer ready for another time. It means that I have a homemade 'ready meal' sat waiting in the freezer when I need it which is a godsend when I finish work at half two and rush … [Read more...]
Mini Egg Omelettes – Great for breakfast on the go, Slimming World or just for a Yummy snack….
One of my favourite ways to use up leftovers is to make slow cooker fridge bottom frittata and I was planning to cook it last night for tea but clever me decided to make a batch of homemade tomato sauce when I got home from work without thinking that I'd be needing to use the slow cooker for the frittata! So instead of making one big frittata to use up some leftover bits and bobs, I decided to make mini frittatas in the oven instead and actually, now that I've made them this way I think they would be great to make for breakfasts and mini snacks as well as being great for those of you … [Read more...]
Fun science experiments you can do at home….
It's National Science Week next week so I thought we'd start the weekend with a nice little bit of science! Both of my children say that their favourite lesson at school is science and I can see why when I hear about some of the fun experiments they get to do. Master Frugal won a Headteacher's award for science last week and he's asked if we can do some science experiments at home 'instead of that crafty stuff'!So, I'm trying to do more science related activities with the kids at home which has been interesting to say the least. Not all have worked as they should have done (some have … [Read more...]
10 uses for leftover wine…..
OK, I know that leftover wine is a rare occurrence but it does happen (or so I've been told). So if you ever find yourself with leftover wine, there here's a handy list of what you can do with it to save it going to waste.1. Drink it! ;-)2. You can freeze it in ice cube trays to add to the same type of wine next time you drink it. It keeps it cool without diluting it like an ice cube would.3. As above, you can freeze it into ice cubes ready to add to your favourite recipes. White wine goes lovely in risottos and reds are great in beef casseroles and stews.4. It … [Read more...]
