Christmas shopping was so much simpler when the kids were younger!Their Christmas wishlists were so predictable that I could do most of my shopping for them even before I asked them to tell me what they wanted for Christmas. Those were the good old days - the days of dolls and dressing up and of Lego and magic tricks and the days where it was probably more about quantity than quality if I'm honest. Now, at the ages of 14 and almost 12, Christmas is a whole different ball game.Last year, I tried to make it more about experiences than gifts because I'd rather give them memories than … [Read more...]

Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {23rd September 2016}….
1) I won an award which I know that isn't particularly thrifty of frugal in itself but bear with me here. ;-)I was really pleased to be awarded the Best Lifestyle and Money blog by the lovely team at UK Money Bloggers and gutted that I missed the big posh awards ceremony in London a few weeks ago as I would have loved to meet up with some of the lovely bloggers who were also nominated. My prize arrived this week in the form of vouchers for M&S and (here's where the frugal bit comes in) instead of spending it on yummy food of clothes and handbags, I decided to be practical and … [Read more...]
3 cheap perfumes that smell like posh ones….
I don’t know about you but I’ve always been pretty loyal when it comes to perfume – I tend to wear Tommy Girl in the Summer and Gucci Rush in the Winter with a bit of Joe Malone Honey Blossom and Nectarine when my budget allows.Because of my fragrance brand loyalty, Mr Frugal has a pretty easy time as far as Birthday, Anniversary and Christmas presents go and I usually have a constant supply of my favourite perfumes.Miss Frugal, who’s recently discovered a love of perfume, doesn’t have the same brand loyalty when it comes to perfume and she smells different every day thanks to her ever … [Read more...]
Delicious slow cooker gammon cooked in Dr Pepper….
Last week we managed to pick up a good sized gammon joint reduced to £2.56 when we popped into Tesco to see if we could find any bargains. Our local Tesco is a funny one as the best bargains are around about 5pm and if you go much later then there's nothing left at all other than limp looking salad usually.Since it was so cheap, we decided that we would have a go at something we'd been wanting to try for a while - gammon cooked in Dr Pepper! We'd been put off making it in the past by the thought of wasting a good gammon joint if we didn't like the results but seeing as the joint had been … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {15th July 2016}….
1) I had to buy the last of Master Frugal's new school uniform this week and although it's pretty hard to save money when most of it is compulsory, I did manage to save a little bit. I have no idea why he needs both a short and long sleeved top along with a hoody but I was a good parent and bought them all along with the school socks! I drew the line at the shorts and the tracksuit bottoms as the PE teacher told me that he'd never wear the tracksuit bottoms and any shorts were OK as long as they were black. He has a pair of black nike shorts that he's going to wear and a pair of plain black … [Read more...]
Redecorating my Living Room on a budget – the after pictures….
On Saturday I shared some photos of my living room before my Bank Holiday makeover and today I'm almost finished so I thought I'd share the after photos with you.It hasn't gone quite according to plan as I still have one wall to paint and I didn't manage to find any large frames to hang my wall paper samples in so I still have my old picture up at the moment. I'm going to get Mr Frugal to do his bit this week sometime and paint the wall and I'll be on the look out for frames at boot sales and in charity shops over the next few weeks - I know exactly what I want, I just have to find it. … [Read more...]
