We have a stack of board games in our garage ranging from Twister to Cluedo and Pie Face to Monopoly and over the last few years, as the kids have got older, we've loved playing every one of them. The reason they're all in the garage and not in the house right now (apart from lack of space ;-)) is that we've been enjoying playing with our collection of games that we call our travel games. We call them our travel games because they're the ones that we take on holiday with us or anywhere that we expect to be sitting around for a while. They're all small, portable, easy to set up and easy … [Read more...]

Do you wait for Black Friday to do your Christmas Shopping?
Christmas shopping was so much simpler when the kids were younger!Their Christmas wishlists were so predictable that I could do most of my shopping for them even before I asked them to tell me what they wanted for Christmas. Those were the good old days - the days of dolls and dressing up and of Lego and magic tricks and the days where it was probably more about quantity than quality if I'm honest. Now, at the ages of 14 and almost 12, Christmas is a whole different ball game.Last year, I tried to make it more about experiences than gifts because I'd rather give them memories than … [Read more...]

September's my least favourite month of the year to be honest as it's the anniversary of when my brother died and the anniversary of when my Mam found out just how ill she was the year later. I've also struggled with going back to work this month after being off for most of the Summer ill and we've had all of the usual stress of going back to school and the various bugs and dramas that come with it.So, all in all, it's been a funny old month with more than it's fair share of lows but I think the lows have made us spend more time together and enjoy each other's company more than … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {23rd September 2016}….
1) I won an award which I know that isn't particularly thrifty of frugal in itself but bear with me here. ;-)I was really pleased to be awarded the Best Lifestyle and Money blog by the lovely team at UK Money Bloggers and gutted that I missed the big posh awards ceremony in London a few weeks ago as I would have loved to meet up with some of the lovely bloggers who were also nominated. My prize arrived this week in the form of vouchers for M&S and (here's where the frugal bit comes in) instead of spending it on yummy food of clothes and handbags, I decided to be practical and … [Read more...]
Camping for beginners – our experience and a free camping checklist….
The title of this post really should read - Camping for beginners - our experience and a free camping checking list so you remember everything we forgot.... Apparently that's too long for Google though so you got the shortened version instead. ;-)We're not experienced campers and weren't particularly well prepared for our camping trip a few weeks ago so after I came back, I decided to write a list of everything we took that was worth taking (we took a lot). everything we should have taken that we needed (also a lot of things) so that our next camping trip is a little easier.I know … [Read more...]
