Remember before Christmas when I told you that I was trying to focus more on experiences rather than gifts?Well one of Master Frugal's experiences took place this week and it was amazing - far better than I had expected and worth every penny we paid for it.He's a huge Boro fan and follows them avidly so when he didn't really ask for much at Christmas we had no idea what to buy him as his main present. It felt like we'd be buying him something for the sake of it as he hadn't really asked for anything and didn't really need anything. So we started thinking about what sort of experience … [Read more...]

Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {26th February 2016}….
How on earth is it nearly March?1) I bought a of pack of ready peeled and chopped swede reduced to 37p from the shop the other day and made a gorgeous curried swede soup which was delicious. It was just what I needed for lunch when it was -1 c outside!2) I went to Ikea at the weekend for a look around to get some inspiration and ideas for our house this year and although I came away brimming with ideas, I actually only spent £2 and that was on a gorgeous little plant pot type thing that I'm using as a pen holder at the moment. I even used my Ikea family card to get a free cuppa … [Read more...]

Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {5th February 2016}….
1) One of the things I wanted to do this year was take care of myself a little bit better and start making time for me and I'm really trying to stick to that. I'm really pleased with my progress at Slimming World and I'm feeling quote good about myself at the moment even though I've got a LONG way to go.As part of my new 'me' regime I bought myself some new nail varnishes and a new lipgloss from our local Pounstretchers - not bad for a pound each!2) If you pay your council tax over 10 months then this month and next are no council tax months (or at least they are for us). In the … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {29th January 2016}….
1) Last weekend I took Miss Frugal clothes shopping for our holidays and got some great deals on Summer clothes in New Look. She was over the moon when she came out with two pairs of shorts, a pair of flip flops for the beach, two pairs of sunglasses and a pretty top for £11! The shorts had been reduced from £14 to £2 a pair and the sunglasses were reduced from about £7 to 5op which made them huge bargains and just shows that buying clothes out of season can save you a fortune.2) Miss Frugal was given a lovely bag this week from a friend of a friend who no longer wanted it but … [Read more...]
Learning to let go….
As a parent, I like to think I have quite a relaxed style of parenting but no matter how laid back I am, I wasn't prepared for the question Master Frugal asked me last weekend: Please can I go to the park with my friends today Mam? My immediate thought was absolutely not - he's only 10 and the park is about three quarters of a mile away. I quickly thought out all of the worst case scenarios in my head which ranged anywhere from him being kidnapped to falling in the lake and from falling of a swing to being bitten by a rabid dog.(Not that I'm a worrier you understand ;-))I opened my … [Read more...]
