It seems to me that the older the kids get, the harder it is for us to spend time together as a couple on our own.I must admit that I always thought it would be the other way round and that as they got older we'd have more 'couple' time together but actually, they go to bed later now which cuts down on time together on a night and when we do plan to go out it can seem a shame not to take them with us if we know it's something we'd enjoy doing as a family. But, we do need to make time together as a couple without the kids and we make sure that this happens at least two nights a week - no … [Read more...]

Teaching Children about Money – Important lessons learned this week….
As another week of 2014 speeds by us, it's time for this week's teaching children about money post. This week it's all about saving versus spending and is inspired by a couple of interesting conversation I had with the kids last weekend.Miss Frugal has been after a bottle of the new One Direction perfume since it first came out but I've held off buying it on principle because, as I've said before, it annoys me that it's priced so highly when it's aimed at young girls. It was on her Christmas list but after I explained that if I bought her a bottle, it would be the smallest bottle (3oml) … [Read more...]
Homemade Cinnamon stick tree decorations….
We've gone for a bit of a change this year with a red and gold colour schemed tree in place of the usual lilac and silver ornaments that we use and surprisingly (because I loved the old colours), I really like it. It feels a lot more traditional and makes me want to fill it with lovely rustic style decorations so I'm on a mission to make some this month. The first decorations I've made to hang on there are some lovely cinnamon stick decorations that took me minutes to make but look and smell great on the tree. Cinnamon sticks aren't very expensive and I've just had a quick look online at … [Read more...]
Review: Airkix Manchester….
It was taken last weekend at Airkix in Manchester where we had a go an indoor skydiving (by we, I mean everyone but me ;-)). It was an amazing experience and one which I would definitely recommend doing it at least once. I know what you're thinking and it's also not nearly as expensive as you might think with prices starting at £29.99 for two flights for a first time flyer. As well as the actual flights, the price includes a full training and safety briefing by a qualified instructor before you enter the wind tunnel as well as a certificate afterwards. While they were doing their … [Read more...]
Do some brands take advantage of our children?
It's no secret that Miss Frugal is a big One Direction fan - we've been to the concert, seen the movie, bought the (very expensive) T-shirt, paid for the albums and spent pocket money on all sorts of different One Direction memorabilia over the last year or so.So when I saw there was a One Direction perfume being released, I knew she'd be desperate to add a bottle to her growing One Direction collection. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting but it certainly wasn't what we found after following the trail of One Direction cutouts through the shop. I was pleasantly surprised by the … [Read more...]
That’s not what I asked for….
Men (and by men, I mean one man specifically)!Today my beloved husband took Master Frugal to the hairdressers for his back to school trim. I'm pretty sure that I didn't mention the words 'scalp him', skin head or bald when I was describing what sort of cut we usually got which is why I was a little surprised to see this when I got home from work this afternoon....And no, that's not a police mug shot, it's my lovely little boy with a lot less hair than he started the day with.Mr Frugal's explanation? That's not what I asked for! Oh well that's OK then ;-)After I'd … [Read more...]
