One of my most popular posts ever is my post about the six things you can do before you go to bed that will make the next day better. In my work life, I’d call getting prepared for the following day the night before ‘Setting yourself up for Success’ and actually that’s a good thing to call it in my home life to because there really are things you can do that will make the following day easier for you which in turn will make you happier.
I’ve been thinking about what else you can do in your daily life to set yourself up for success and I’ve thought of a few quick wins (another work term;-)) that you can do on a morning to help your day get off to the best start possible.
Consider what time you set your alarm for
Make sure your alarm is set to give you enough time to get ready without having to run around like a headless chicken to get yourself (and the kids) ready for the day ahead! It’s nice to have some time to just sit and relax before your day begins.
Don’t be tempted to ‘Snooze’
Don’t hit that snooze button because there are all sorts of scientific reasons why this is bad for you. I may not know exactly what they are but I do know that an extra few minutes won’t make you feel as good as getting out of bed when your alarm goes off the first time!
Make time to eat breakfast
Eat Breakfast no matter how rushed you are, even if you don’t really fancy it. Something as quick as a banana will do and it’ll make you feel better throughout morning.
Plan your day
Plan the day ahead so you know what you have to get done and where you need to be at what time. You can write a to-do list, use my daily plan of action printable or even just think the day through in your head. I like to do the most important task of the day first if that’s possible.
Get dressed
This sounds daft but even if you’re not having to leave the house, get dressed and brush your hair. Don’t be tempted to laze around in your pyjamas if you want to have a productive day.
Smile
This is corny but always works for me – smile when you leave the house in the morning and you’ll feel happier in yourself. Smile at strangers you see along the way to wherever you’re going and you’ll get their day off to a happier start as well as your own.
