Without wanting to sound all woe is me, July hasn’t been the easiest month for us as I’ve not been well at all recently. I’m a lot better now thanks to some very strong painkillers and I’m hoping that my appointment at the hospital this week will get me sorted once and for all so there’s nothing to be overly concerned about.
We’ve still had a lovely month though with some amazing highs so I’m going to focus on those today and share some of the small things that have made me smile this month.
I’ll start with an update on Master Frugal because he’s made me smile a lot this month and right now, I couldn’t be prouder of him. His years 6 leavers assembly was extremely emotional as was his prom night and you can read more about them here if you want to. He also achieved way above the national average for his SATs and even though I’m not a SATs fan, it was nice to see how his hard work paid off and seeing his little proud face brought a lump to my throat.
Now for the complicated bit! Remember he didn’t get into the same secondary school as Miss Frugal due to an admin error? Even though they admitted the error, the school was full and they had no place for him so he did his two week transition at the school he’d been allocated. He loved the school and I was quite happy with it having seen how well he’d settled so we thought all was going well.
Then the day he finished his transition, he got home and we got a phone call from the deputy head of Miss Frugal’s school apologising profusely for the error and the timing of the call but offering him a place at the school. I told them I’d have to call them back as he genuinely was loving the other school.
We had a huge chat about the fact that Miss Frugal’s school has a better academic record and that it will save him the 20 minute bike ride to school every day along with the fact that he knows people there and in the end, he decided to swap schools. He’s still not 100% happy but I’m confident that he will be as soon as he gets there on day 1 as his apprehension now is simply because he missed the transition.
We had an amazing meeting with the deputy head the next morning and teachers kept popping in the office and saying hello to him so he feels really wanted bless him. He’s likened it to a football transfer with one school wanting him more that the other and he keeps asking what his signing bonus is going to be! 😉
We had a great time picking strawberries and raspberries this month and we’re planning to go back to the farm again next week to do it again! The fresh strawberry muffins we made from our pickings were genuinely the nicest muffins I’ve ever tried so I definitely having a go at making them if you have some spare strawberries.
I’ve loved being able to spend so much time in the garden this month and lovely Mr Frugal moved the table and chairs closer to the house so the extension lead he’s attached to my charger reaches the table which means I can sit out there for longer. We also bought a huge parasol reduced from B&Q for better shade and I’ve spent hours out there this month.
We also now have a veg patch which Miss Frugal planted after she built the raised bed and filled it with compost. We bought most of the plants partly grown from the garden centre as we’ve left it late to grow from seed but at the moment we have carrots, sweetcorn, tomatoes, lettuce and spring onions. We also have a chilli pepper plant which has about a million of them on it so when they ripen I’ll have a years supply of chillis.
I’ve discovered a new bubble bath that is so amazing that it’s worth the hefty price tag. I treated myself to a bottle last week to help me relax a bit and it definitely does the job – it smells so nice that I leave the water in the bath when I get out so I can still smell it from my bedroom! I think I’m the last to the party with this one as everyone I’ve told about this wonderstuff has just nodded and said something along the lines of ‘aaaah yes, amazing stuff’.
I finally got to use my gorgeous drinks dispenser at a friends BBQ and it made me smile every time someone said how great it looked. I filled it with orange squash and added some grenadine and the contents of my fruit bowl. 😉
So there you have it, just a few of the things making me happy this month.
