Last year when Miss Frugal had a sore throat, I made her some throat soothing chamomile, lemon and honey ice lollies which she declared were like ‘yummy medicine’ as they were just about the only thing that seemed to help soothe the pain.
Last Sunday was the first time I’d had a sore throat myself since making these for Miss Frugal so I sent Mr Frugal to the shot for some honey and set about making myself a batch in the hope that they would help make me all better.
Here’s how I make my soothing chamomile, lemon and honey ice lollies
2 Chamomile tea bags
2 tbsp honey (more or less according to your taste)
1 lemon cut into wedges
boiling water
I simply added the tea bags to a teapot (a jug would be just as good), topped it up with boiling water and added the lemon wedges and the honey. I gave it a good stir and left it to infuse for five minutes before pouring it into my lovely ice lolly moulds and popping in the freezer for a few hours to freeze.
Here’s the finished result….
They’re definitely delicious (although in an acquired taste sort of way seeing as Mr Frugal tried some and wasn’t keen at all) and in my opinion they’re soothing while you’re eating them and for a little while after but they don’t provide any sort of lengthy relief. Miss Frugal doesn’t agree with this though and says that they definitely do make her throat feel better ‘for ages’.
I’ll make them again definitely even though I’m not as convinced as Miss Frugal of their healing powers!
PS. A couple of people have asked where I got my moulds from so here you go….
