This Spicy Gingerbread Lip Scrub is exactly what you need to give your lips a bit of a treat!

At this time of year, my lips always seem to get super dry and often a little bit chapped, but this spicy gingerbread lip scrub is my absolute go-to to soothe them and stop them drying out even more. We actually first made a version of this after spotting something similar in Lush one year. It smelled amazing, but the price definitely didn’t fit into my winter budget, and I also quite liked the idea of knowing exactly what was going onto my lips. So we came home, raided the kitchen cupboards, and made our own version for a fraction of the cost. 😀
It’s super easy to make, smells like Christmas in a jar, and uses ingredients you probably already have, so there’s no need to go out and buy anything fancy.
What you need to make your own homemade spicy gingerbread lip scrub
- Just the right amount of brown sugar to fill around 3/4 of the container you’re going to store this in.
- Just the right amount of extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil (melted or in its liquid form) to top up your container.
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
I’ve kept the quantities vague because it really depends on the size of the container you’re filling. I try to make just enough to fill whatever jar I’m using so nothing gets wasted. If you make too much, you might end up throwing some away a couple of weeks later, so it’s much better to mix small amounts as you go.
Both ginger and cinnamon can cause a little bit of tingling, so I’ve kept the measurements gentle at ¼ teaspoon each. If I’m being honest though, I often make it with ½ teaspoon of each because I quite like the tingly feeling. You can adjust the spices to suit you.
How to make your homemade spicy gingerbread lip scrub
- Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix until everything is evenly combined.
- Transfer the scrub into a small jar or container with a tight-fitting lid.
- Store your gingerbread lip scrub in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Just give it a quick stir before each use as the oils may settle or separate slightly as it sits.
It’s such a lovely little winter treat for your lips and it feels like a luxury product without the luxury price tag. It also makes a cute homemade gift if you pop it into a small jar with a label.

How to use your homemade spicy gingerbread lip scrub
To use your spicy gingerbread lip scrub, start by damping your lips with warm water. Scoop out a small, penny-sized amount and gently massage it over your lips for around 10 to 15 seconds. When you’re done, wipe it away with a warm, damp cloth and rinse lightly. I like to leave a tiny bit of the oil behind to soak in, as it keeps my lips feeling soft and hydrated.
