We’ve been having a bit of a Summer makeover this weekend, updating the Living room with a few little bits and bobs to brighten it up for Summer and I’m really pleased with the results so I thought you might like to see them.
I like to keep the decor itself quite neutral usually which allows me to change things around without a big redecorating project and without spending a lot. This weekend’s change about included a new TV cabinet in the Living room (courtesy of my Dad’s own latest redecorating project), a new rug (courtesy of The Rug Retailer).
The carpet in the Living room is the same carpet we’ve had since we bought the house from new and it’s not wearing fantastically if I’m honest. We have quite a small living room so a year or so ago we bought a cheap rug that covered most of the carpet and although I didn’t not like it, I picked it more because it was cheap than because of any love I felt towards it! And then a few week’s ago, I was at Jen’s house and I fell in love with her rug – it was EXACTLY what I would have picked if I was buying a rug for my own home!
It turned out that Jen was reviewing the rug and later on that night an email popped into my inbox from the lovely people at The Rug Retailer asking if I’d like to review a rug for them. It took me precisely five seconds to reply back to say a big yes please and to tell them exactly which rug I wanted.
It arrived not long afterwards and I love it just as much as I thought I would.
I realise it’s not everyone’s cup of tea because of the bright colours but it really does look amazing and it’s fantastic quality – you can see the quality and the thickness of the rug from the photo above. You can also tell how soft it is by the fact that Master F is making ‘Rug Angels’ on it! It’s quite heavy as well so I can’t see that we’re going to have issues with the corner curling up like we did on our old rug.
I also had a bit of a de-clutter and moved all of the kids xbox 360 games and accessories into the sideboard. The streamlined their games by taking some older ones back to a local games shop and trading them in – who knew Skylanders held their value? They got a new game that’s just come out without having to spend any pocket money and I got some extra space. Win, Win!
Next on the list was my must have list was new candles – Yankee Candles to be precise. I’ve recently become a bit of a candle convert and I now understand that candles are not just for decoration (although if they’re pretty that’s all the better). I love the smell of the house after I’ve had a candle burning for a little while on a night, especially when they’re as lovely smelling as the Baby Powder and Strawberry Buttercream candles that I got recently from Scentedcandleshop.com. The small jars look lovely on my sideboard and they fragrance the house beautifully – so much so that most people who come in now comment on how nice it smells although that may be because one or other candle is burning most evenings!
Add the curtains that I made a little while ago….
And my newly de-cluttered sideboard (trust me, it really has been de-cluttered)….
And that’s my mini make-over done.
Now on to our bedroom!
