There's so much fun to be had at this time of year, so I thought I'd do a quick round up of some of the activities we've done over the last couple of years - just click on the title and you'll go right to the post about it. Colourful Crayons….
We love making colourful crayon cakes, they're fun to make and when they're done, they're even more fun to draw with. To make your own crayon cakes, arrange broken crayons in some paper cake cases like we've done below (we tend t use cheap silicone cases and keep some just for this but paper works just as well). If you're feeling particularly creative you can arrange them in to coordinating colour schemes, last time we made these, Miss Frugal made one using a heart shaped silicone mould case and just pink and red crayon bits which was gorgeous and almost too pretty to draw with.If … [Read more...]
America Day….
I've been trying to think of ways to teach the kids about other countries and cultures whilst having as much fun as possible. Both of them have a huge map of the word on their walls and they're at the age now where they're relly interested in what other children around the world do.The first country they wanted to learn about was America so we decided to have a themed America Day....I showed them America on their maps and we compared it to the size of the UK and then we had fun making our own little Stars and Stripes flags and sticking them on to cocktail sticks. We also tried to … [Read more...]
Get Crafty – Love Bugs….
I love this time of year, I think it's because there's hearts, flowers and cute teddies everywhere you look and even people who don't usually have a romantic bone in their body (Yes, I'm talking about you Mr Frugal) make an effort to show how much they love you (hint, hint). In anticipation of the fantastic treats I'm going to get this year, I thought I should make something for the kids to give to Mr Frugal on Valentines day, he's not usually a hearts and flowers kind of guy so we thought we'd make some pom pom Love Bugs and they actually turned out quite well so here you go, step by step … [Read more...]
Bored, Bored, Board…. The Sequel
A little while ago we made our own board game called the Razzle Dazzle game and even if I do say so myself, it was brilliant. I can't for the life of me understand why Mattel or some other game making company aren't banging on out door trying to buy the rights to it (or not lol). We do actually still play it every now and again as Miss Frugal is so proud that she made her very own board game, she even took it to school with her for games day on the last day of school. So when she asked if we could make another one, I could hardly say no, could I?We were a bit limited with … [Read more...]
Shake it Baby….
I HATE NOISY TOYS! It can't be just me who hates noisy toys.... No matter how cute or funny the toy may be, they usually start to get on my nerves about 30 seconds after they're turned on. Which is why the following activity was such a huge sacrifice on my part! With Miss Frugal despatched to Grandads for tea, me and Master Frugal decided to put empty yoghurt pots to good use and make a shakey thing....I didn't take any pictures as we were making it as Master Frugal and paint and scissors and glue don't mix well ;-)All we did was sellotape two muller light yoghurt pots … [Read more...]
