Miss Frugal is now officially learning to cook (so she tells me) in a weekly 'Fun with Food' class that she's taking at school. Apparently she had the chance to grow stuff, sew stuff, cut stuff or cook stuff so she chose to cook stuff cos she is already good at that (her words not mine ;-)) For the last few weeks she has been coming home with some rather bizarre recipes and this week was no exception! This weeks concoction recipe was cartwheel sandwiches. You'll have to bear with me on this one as we've made it from the memory of a seven year old ;-)Mix a tin of tuna with some … [Read more...]
Cheats Pizza (and other stuff)….
I can't believe that on possibly the nicest day of the year so far, Mr Frugal has been at work all day and I feel like crap! The poor kids have been stuck at home all day and are now so full of energy they are driving me up the wall ;-) I wouldn't mind but I had loads of stuff to do today as well. At least I got one thing off my list done, I took Master Frugal to the hairdressers to get his hair cut this morning. We got it done much shorter than usual as I am so, so fed up of having to constantly be combing his hair for nits. I read a post on A Modern Mother the other day that … [Read more...]
National Peanut Butter Cookie Day….
I bet you didn't know that today is National Peanut Butter Cookie Day (well it is in the US anyway). In honour of this very special, celebrated day I thought that not only would I share a super duper easy recipe for Peanut Butter Cookies, I'll also share with you some very interesting facts about Peanuts and peanut butter cookies. American eat about 700 million pounds of peanut butter each year. People who have a phobia of peanut butter sticking to the roof of their mouth have 'arachibutyrophobia'. It takes about 550 peanuts to make a 12 ounce jar of creamy peanut butter.Ok, so I … [Read more...]
Baking Day….
We're having a bit of a baking day today. So far we've made: Cinnamon buns - When I attempted to make these originally I learned a valuable lesson - Always read the instructions on the yeast packet before using said yeast. The recipe I used is here and I'm pleased to confirm that if you do in fact follow the instructions on the yeast packet, the buns will turn out yummy. You would be so jealous right now if we had smelly-net as the batch in the oven smell sooooo good.Vanilla Traybake - Miss Independent Frugal is very proud of herself because she's made her own cake with no help from … [Read more...]
Pizza Smiles….
It's now officially half term which means that 'Operation: Family Fun Half Term' is officially underway. (By the way, that's the kids name not mine - I'm geeky but not that geeky lol)We've got loads of activities planned for this week and I've managed to put in a few days holiday from work so I'm looking forward to spending lots of time together....I asked the kids this morning what they wanted to do today and Master Frugal asked if he could do some baking with me, which was fine as I love baking with both of them but he likes to do everything himself so I try and choose really … [Read more...]
