This sign made us laugh yesterday when we were out shopping ;-) I'm not sure what made me laugh most, the fact that Gingerbread Men now appear to be called Ginger Persons or the fact that we, a family of four Ginger Persons, were stood staring at the sign advertising us at the special offer price of 4 for £1.00. Inspired by this sign, we've just made our very own ginger person family.... You can make them even if you're not ginger lol. All you need to make them is: 350g plain flour 2 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 100g butter or … [Read more...]
Bursting Blueberries….
We managed to buy some bargain blueberries from the shop tonight - a big punnet reduced to 65p. I was planning to use them to make something exotic and different but in the end we just made plain old boring muffins! All you need to recreate my delicious little muffins is: 75g butter (softened) 75g sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 egg, beaten 200g plain flour 125ml milk 100g blueberries Gradually add the sugar and the egg to the butter Mix 1 tablespoon flour with the blueberries and put to one side. Sift the remaining flour together with the baking powder. Fold the flour and … [Read more...]
Cupcakes….
Anyone who knows me knows how much of a cookbook freak I am, I have loads but hardly ever use them for recipes - I just like to look at the pictures and dream.... I have had the occasional go though and one particular memory of chilli and chorizo scallops springs to mind - I won't go into it but it's safe to say that we haven't had scallops since ;-) I've also had more than one disaster with chocolate mousses and it's probably best if I don't even mention my previous risotto issues! Anyway, my various disasters haven't put me off buying cookbooks and when I went shopping yesterday I heard … [Read more...]
Who needs Dolmio….
In an effort to be even more of a perfect Domestic Goddess, I have just made my own tomato sauce, from scratch, without any help, on my own! It's super easy and cheap! I'm not good with technical terms but I just put some chopped onions and chopped garlic in a pan with a big glug of olive oil and cooked them until the onions were soft. I admit that I had some help with the stirring:Next comes the tomato bit, but seeing as Master Frugal doesn't like tomatoes he left this bit to his big sister. She added two tins of chopped tomatoes to the mixture and poured sprinkled in some … [Read more...]
Isn’t Good Friday Supposed to be a Good Day….
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh. Why does this always happen on Bank Holidays - I look forward to them and the kids wake up in a grouchy mood that lasts all day! They have taken it in turns to be pains in the arse naughty all day.Mr Frugal was on nights last night so he slept till about one. We played speed stacking for a while, played on the Wii and watched the Monsters Vs Aliens film (yes, again!) and generally argued our way through the morning. As soon as he got up we went to the beach to play with the nerf thing that Master Frugal got for his birthday last week. What's a nerf you might say - … [Read more...]
Tea – Miss Frugal Style….
Last week Miss Frugal announced that she was ready to cook us a meal. At first, I wasn't quite sure whether this was a good idea or not but she wore me down and we agreed that she would cook spaghetti and meatballs - never let it be said that she doesn't aim high lol.I've never made meatballs before and I wasn't really sure what to put in them (apart from the meat bit obviously) so I googled for a recipe but there were so many variations that I gave up and decided to let her do what she wanted (obviously keeping the pizza menu to hand just in case). She squished together some … [Read more...]
