This afternoon we've been making ice lollies to celebrate the return of the sunshine..... I know it's not exactly Summer yet but after the cold, dark winter we've had the I'm going to make the most of what we have got!We made pineapple ice lollies first using two tins of value pineapple chunks (13p each) and some lemonade.Master Frugal helped me to blend the pineapple chucks, saving a few for later. Then we poured the blended mix into a jug, topped up to a pint with lemonade and added the last of the pineapple chunks. We poured the mix into our ice lolly holders and put them in … [Read more...]

Yorkshire Puddings…. Part 2

Cupcake Challenge….
After reading about English Mum's Cupcake Challenge and looking at the lovely cakes that others had made, I decided that I fancied trying my hand at making some tasty little works of art. However, as usual in the Frugal House, things didn't quite go according to plan. It beats me how everyone makes their cupcake icing look so perfect and why is it when I want my cakes to be quite flat on top they come out huuuuge? We decided to make mini carrot cakes using the recipe that I followed last weekend (here). We didn't have any lemons in so I thought we would use lime for the … [Read more...]
Yummy Carrot Cake….
I normally bake with Miss Frugal because (a) she loves to make things, (b) she is at the age where she is able to do things for herself and (c) she doesn't try and eat everything in sight every time I turn around. Yesterday, however, my baking buddy deserted me to go to her friends for a sleepover so I was left with Master Frugal to be my helpful assistant. To be honest he was more of a hindrance than a help but he had fun so it doesn't really matter if he ate more of the mix than I managed to get in the oven!I've never made a carrot cake before and was really surprised by how moist and yummy … [Read more...]
