As the lovely people from Green and Blacks sent me some cooking chocolate to use, it would have been rude not to use it to make something yummy lol.We decided to make some flapjacks because Miss Frugal loves them but the ones she likes with the chocolate topping on are 89p in the shop round the corner.Apart from the chocolate, we had everything else in so they were surprisingly cheap to make.Ingredients80g brown sugar100g butter or margarine250g oats (we used the value porridge oats leftover from our reindeer dust at Christmas)2 tablespoons golden syrupApprox 100g bar of chocolate (we used 2/3 … [Read more...]
Recipe for Golden Syrup Biscuits….
To try out the aprons that we made yesterday we just made some yummy golden syrup biscuits. When I say we, I mean me, Miss Frugal and Baby Isabella (the doll!) so you can imagine how long it took us. Miss Frugal is soooo cute when she's pretending to be a mommy, she made sure that baby Isabella got to have go at everything and kept saying well done to her when she did something.... Aaaaaw. The recipe itself is super easy, all you need is:25 g (1 oz) butter or margarine2 1/2 tablespoons golden syrup1/2 teaspoon Bicarbonate of soda1/4 teaspoon vanilla essence100g (4 oz) self raising flour1. … [Read more...]
Jammy Buns….
Miss Frugal has just made Jammy Buns for us all. I've made them with her a couple of times before (see here) but today she decided that she was now grown up enough to make them on her own. She put her little pinny on and managed to weigh out the ingredients all by herself (good job there's not many lol) so she's feeling quite proud of herself. Her three cousins have just been round and she made them all sit at the table to try one - She would have been gutted if they hadn't liked them! I know they don't look much but they taste gorgeous. … [Read more...]
A Frugal Fondue….
I found a huge bar of chocolate in the cupboard on Friday night and I was sooooo tempted to eat it - which wouldn't have helped my diet in any way! After sitting and staring at it (whilst drooling) for a while wondering if a big bar of dairy milk was worth breaking my diet over, I decided to melt it down and make a frugal family style fondue. I didn't do anything fancy, I just melted the chocolate in the microwave and chopped up some fruit. Arm the kids with a fork each and you have two happy little people.Funnily enough we went shopping yesterday and saw a Cadbury's chocolate fondue set for … [Read more...]
American Style Pancakes….
AKA - Them ones that MacDonalds make ;-)Don't you just love kids and their honesty? I told them that we were having pancakes for breakfast this morning and they had the cheek to say they would rather go to MacDonalds! Apparently, MacDonalds pancakes are much nicer than mine.Never one to be outdone, I decided that I was going to make MacDonald's stlye pancakes better than even MacDonalds could make them so I sent them off to play on the Wii and turned to my trusty cookbook collection for some inspiration. After all, I have about a million so I knew one of them would have a recipe in it that … [Read more...]
Microwave Sponge Pudding….
This microwave sponge pudding is one of the easiest, yet tastiest puddings that we've ever made! We've been making our microwave sponge pudding for a good 10 years or more now and I actually first shared this recipe more than ten years ago on here. TEN YEARS! I shared it with the most ridiculously small photos and barely any explanation about why we made it so often so I thought I'd dust off the old post and give it a new lease of life today. Our version of a jammy microwave sponge pudding was one of the first recipes that Miss Frugal ever learned to make … [Read more...]
