Going Bananas….
I have just found two bananas hiding at the bottom of my fruit bowl that are looking a but past it. Rather than throwing them out (as I usually would) I decided to see if I could find a way to use up these sad looking specimens....There are loads of recipes out there on the internet using bananas but the simplest one that I have found was for Fruity Banana Bread.Ingredients100g sugar,75g Margarine,200g plain flour,2 teaspoons baking powder,2 eggs,2 bananas,50g dried fruit.First of all you need to cream the margarine and the sugar. Then mix in the eggs and add the two mashed up bananas. Mix in … [Read more...]
A trip to the hospital and some frugal cleaning….
Slight trauma yesterday when we had to take Master Frugal to the hospital... He came off worst in a fight with the Wii remote. He had taken the safety strap off his wrist and was swinging it round while waiting for his turn and somehow managed to swing it full force into his mouth. There was blood everywhere (including my carpet - we'll get to that later though) and looking at it initially Mr Frugal thought that his tooth had bit right through. The blood was literally pouring out so we took him straight to the little A & E near us. They managed to stop the bleeding and confirmed that he hadn't … [Read more...]
Meal 2 – Stretching the Ham Joint….
Here's meal 2 that I have made out of the ham joint. I used the water that I boiled the ham in and added a chopped onion, 4 carrots and 2 biggish potatoes. I cooked it for about 45 minutes and then added some dumplings and cooked for another 25 minutes or so. It tasted lovely and even Mr Frugal ate it which makes a change. … [Read more...]
Clutter Cupboard….
Does anyone else have a clutter cupboard like mine:I know its not a cupboard, it's a bookshelf but 'Clutter Bookshelf' doesn't sound as catchy does it?My clutter 'cupboard' is right by the door in our living room and is used as a dumping ground for everything. I considered getting rid of it but the room has no other storage and things would only get left on the floor if we didn't have it. In theory the kids have a shelf each and I have one too, Mr Frugal has his computer desk in the kitch so he doesn't get one (Aaaaaaaaw).I am thinking of revamping it (obviously in frugal fashion) but am not … [Read more...]
This weeks meal plan….
This is my menu plan for the week. I usually do my weeks plan on a Friday ready for shopping on a Saturday but I am a bit late this week as we have had a houseguest staying with us this week. I try and get Miss Frugal to do it with me to help her with her writing and to have fun in the kitchen with her as I really want to encourage her to learn to cook and to enjoy being in the kitchen with me. This weeks plan is very bitsy as I am trying to use up all of the little bits in the cupboards and the freezer and I thought that with me being off work again this was the ideal week to use up the odds … [Read more...]
