We have had a very Christmassy day today, it was Master Frugal's nativity play this afternoon and he has been really looking forward to us going to see it as he was playing the Ghost of Christmas Past and has been practicing his lines constantly for weeks. The performance was by the nursery and reception classes so the children were all 3 and 4 years old, I think the teachers did a fantastic job and they were quite relaxed about the usual waves to the audience and kids leaving the stage to give their moms a hug. I had tears in my eyes from laughing at one point when Mary stood up and said, no … [Read more...]
Dirty kids are healthy (and happy) kids….
And no, that's not just me saying that to avoid the housework ;-)Apparently, scientists are advising parents that a bit of dirt can be good for children. they have discovered that being 'too clean' can lead to the skin having problems with healing. Just in case you don't believe me, the full article with all of the technical scientific bits is here.Does this mean that I can say that it is for the good of my kids that I am sat on the settee watching Jeremy Kyle instead of cleaning up? … [Read more...]
Home Made Pizza Recipe….
We had home made Pizza for tea tonight - the kids love making this and always eat every bit of it, probably because they think things taste better when they make them.I don't usually have any yeast in the house and never buy any especially to make pizza as home made pizza to me is to use up any leftovers in the fridge and not to go out and buy something extra. So the base that I use is like a scone type base and the recipe is probably the easiest thing ever to make. All you need is 2 1/2 cups Self Raising flour, 30 g butter and 1 cup milk. To make dough, just rub the butter into the flour and … [Read more...]
How to get a North Pole Postmark….
I am off work ill today as I have been up since about 4'o'clock coughing. I have dropped the kids off at school and am now snuggled up on the sofa watching Supermarket Sweep (feeling very sorry for myself might I add). The kids were hyper this morning as they know that they can open their advent calendars tomorrow. I might as well put my day off to good use so I am trying to sort out their letters from Santa Claus.Usually, I buy personalised letters from Ebay for about £2.50 each but this year the Frugal kids are getting a frugal version using this siteFree letters from SantaYou can download … [Read more...]
Letters to Santa….
Wow letters to Santa are a lot different these days than they were when I was little. According to my dad, my letters used to be along the lines of:Dear Santa,I have been a good girl all year and would love a doll to play with. I would look after her and call her Catherine.Love Baby Mrs FrugalMiss Frugal did her letter to Santa while I was cooking the tea and it involved poring over the Argos catalogue and cutting out anything that she wanted, she then laid them all out and narrowed it down to her shortlist. After great deliberation she managed to narrow it down to an A4 side of paper and … [Read more...]
My Halloween Family….
I have had a brilliant day today, one of those rare days where both kids were good all day and Mr Frugal was in a good mood too. They don't happen often in my world ;-) We got up this morning at about nine and went and had a quick game of bowling (1p each). After Mr Frugal wiped the floor with us all we went to Cineworld for the family film (£1 each) which was Ice Age 3. The kids loved the film and it made us love laugh too. After the film we came home and Mr Frugal did the pumpkin with the kids and we had a game of giant Ludo (reduced from £7.50 to £1 in Tescos) and a tournament on the … [Read more...]
