We decided to have our homemade burgers tonight instead on Monday as Mr Frugal decided he was starving and fancied a Big Mac. There are stacks of recipes on the internet that use breadcrumbs and eggs and other faffy bits but ours are just basic and easy. We always split 500g of lean beef mince into two bowls because we both make our own. Mr Frugal just squishes (that's the technical term lol) his pile into two burger shapes and sticks them under the grill whereas mine are a bit more technical.I add a chopped chilli and two chopped garlic cloves to my mince and squish my mix together. As I … [Read more...]
The Worlds Fussiest Eater….
Do I have the fussiest four year old in the world? I think so....He is such a fussy eater and has to be coaxed to eat anything different, which is why I tend to stick to the same meals on my meal plans. When I find something he likes, I stick with it until we all get sick of it.It's only in the last six months or so that he has started to be even slightly more adventurous. The Christmas before last he would only eat plain pasta (still his favourite food). He doesn't eat fish or meat, apart from sausages, and his dinner is usually ours minus any fish, meat or sauces. We try all sorts of things … [Read more...]
Meal Planning – the Slimming World Way
This week's meal plan is going to be be a bit of a nightmare. I have to plan for a fussy eating 4 year old, a can't cook, won't cook other half and on top of that, I need to make sure that it's Slimming World friendly!I think until I have got the hang of being back on Slimming World I'm going to eat simple things that I'm familiar with rather than try anything elaborate or time consuming, more for the fact that I will be cooking separate meals for me initially. Once I've got my head round it I will introduce it more to the rest of the family and gradually try to adapt our family favourites to … [Read more...]
Toad in the hole….
I feel so full.We have just had toad in the hole for tea with mini roasties, mash, carrots, broccoli and gravy. It was gorgeous and the kids both cleared their plates (which doesn't happen often believe me). In our pre-frugal days we would have just ordered a take away on a Saturday night and I can honestly say that we all enjoyed our tea tonight more than any take away.To make the mini roasties, I chop up some potatoes into small chucks and par boil them for about five minutes. Then I drain them and put them back in the empty pan, I season them and then drizzle them with a healthy amount … [Read more...]
Microwave Sponge Pudding….
This microwave sponge pudding is one of the easiest, yet tastiest puddings that we've ever made! We've been making our microwave sponge pudding for a good 10 years or more now and I actually first shared this recipe more than ten years ago on here. TEN YEARS! I shared it with the most ridiculously small photos and barely any explanation about why we made it so often so I thought I'd dust off the old post and give it a new lease of life today. Our version of a jammy microwave sponge pudding was one of the first recipes that Miss Frugal ever learned to make … [Read more...]
Turn Bolognaise Leftovers into Chilli….
After making lasagne yesterday I still have half a slow cooker filled with bolognaise so I thought I might turn that into a nice pot of winter warming chilli.I added 1tsp of chilli, 1tsp of paprika and 1tsp of cumin along with a tin of baked beans (my family hate kidney beans) and cooked it all in the slow cooker again for a few hours.Result - Gorgeous.I think we'll have this instead of curry tomorrow night.UPDATE - This was gorgeous with some reduced pilau rice (10p from Asda) and a reduced naan bread each (5p each). Gorgeous and a bargain! … [Read more...]
