Last night I had a few cheeky bottles glasses of wine with some of the other school mums at one of their houses, while the kids had a sleepover upstairs. It was a great night and the more bottles of wine we drank, the louder we *may* have got.At about 11 o clock, I got a text from Mr Frugal, who was sat at home playing on his computer:Can you keep the noise down?Hmmm, seeing as he was about ten streets away, I was a little puzzled as to how he could possibly know that we weren't sat around sensibly discussing homework or ways we could expand our children's minds. I texted him … [Read more...]
How we make room in our budget for fun….
As I've said before, my main reason for being frugal is so that I can afford to work part time and spend more time with the kids. But (there's always a but).... It's also really important to me that, as a family, we have lots of fun together and even though I know there are plenty of things we can do together that don't cost a penny, there are also lots of things we like to do together that do cost money. We allow a set amount of money each month in our budget for fun things, which could include anything from going to the pictures or bowling (doesn't happen often as it costs so much … [Read more...]
The Happiness Project….
I read a lovely post the other day over at Kate Takes 5 about what makes people happy, she ended by asking people to sit down with their children and ask what made them happy. So here you go, this is what makes my two lovelies happy....Miss FrugalI love the thought she put in to this, it's a bit scary for me to look at because it shows how quickly she's growing up - limos, make up and her laptop are all on there instead of princesses and pink things!Master FrugalAw, I think this shows what a loving little boy he is, the things that make him happy really reflect his … [Read more...]
Moshi Monsters – A Parenting Dilemma….
I have a Moshi Monster related dilemma but it's not what you'd think - I'm not about to ask you what you think about letting children on Moshi Monsters (an online game where children adopt and care for a monster) as that ship's already sailed. Miss Frugal's been playing on there for more than a year now and Master Frugal has just set up his own little monster so he can play online too.My dilemma is actually about those little collectable Moshi Monster collectable figures you can buy - the ones that are £1.99 for a pack of two but you don't know which ones you're getting until you've … [Read more...]
Club rules….
Miss Frugal and her friends have a club. I've absolutely no idea what they do in their little club, I just know that when they have their meetings at our house they giggle a lot and require me to supply lots of jaffa cakes. They have their own club rules and everything....Shame they don't stick to the rules judging by the amount of arguing over that goes on who's the boss of the club ;-) … [Read more...]
My Proudest Moment….
After school tonight Miss Frugal came home and asked if we could tidy her room together, which is a mini miracle in itself although it isn't the reason for the title of the post. The reason for my pride this evening are these few surprise discoveries (please bear in mind that I am a stationary-aholic myself): 8 pencil cases filled with all sorts of lovely pens, pencils and other stationery - I had no idea she had so many! A special drawer dedicated to notebooks - 26 in total. A pencil case filled with buttons that she's found when we're out and about. And then there's … [Read more...]
