When I read about Chris' adventures with Gloop over at Thinly Spread, I thought it looked perfect for us, so I wrote it down somewhere in one of my many notebooks on one of my many 'Things to do with the kids' lists. Except that I seem to remember buying a nice new pretty notebook shortly after which meant that the one I'd written the idea down in was relegated to the old notebook drawer (yes, we really have one) and Gloop was forgotton about. Miss Frugal reminded me of it last week when I bought her a Science Experiment book and she wrote me a list of ten experiments she had seen in there … [Read more...]
How to get the most out of the Summer Holidays….
Most of us are a couple of weeks into the School Holidays now and if you're kids are anything like mine, the novelty of lazing round the house and playing out has started to wear off.I spend the first two weeks of the holidays at work so it was up to my dad to entertain them most days and to be fair, he did a great job with trips to the beach, the park and even a day trip to Edinburgh but now I have a couple of weeks off, they have high expectations that we're going to be doing something different every day. Being the fantastic mother that I am (or is it more just because I'll take any … [Read more...]

Cooking With Kids – Homemade Ice Lollies….
I know it's been a while but I've decided to bring back the Cooking With Kids linky and we're kicking it back off with homemade ice lollies, which I know don't technically class as cooking but you make them in the kitchen and you eat them which is good enough for me and to be honest, I could do with a bit of inspiration so I'd love as many people as possible to join in so I get lots of yummy homemade ice lolly inspiration in time for the Summer.... We made our ice lollies with powdered strawberry milkshake which we made according to the instructions on the pack and added a few more scoops … [Read more...]
Today is…. A Frugal Family Fun Day….
....A remembering why we're lucky kind of a day. ....A dancing round the living room kind of day. ....A blowing bubbles in the garden kind of day. We made our bubble blowers using some pipe cleaners and the bubble mix was just washing up liquid and water. .... A chalk in the garden kind of day. Note to self: Don't allow children to draw chalk pictures right in front of the front door if you don't want chalky footprints trampled all through the house! What sort of a day are you having today? If you want to join in, just grab the code from the side bar and go for … [Read more...]
An Explosive Get Crafty….
When I saw that the theme for the latest Get Crafty was water based crafts, I immediately thought of this. Even though it doesn't use water and it isn't even really a craft, it is lots of fun so I'm going to pretend it is a water craft anyway ;-)The Fun Bit....All you need to make an explosion like ours is a large bottle of Diet Coke (you can use other fizzy pop, but Diet Coke has the best results) and a packet of mint flavoured Mentos.Place the opened bottle of Diet Coke on a flat surface outside away from anything you don't want to get wet. Make sure all little people are … [Read more...]
