In years to come, my children can learn lots about me by reading this blog. I've shared a lot on here about myself in the last couple of years - everything from childhood memories to greatest fears along with lots of other things along the way but I don't really share much about Mr Frugal on here although he does pop up from time to time ;-) So today, I'm going to share some things I want them to know about their Dad. Not the obvious things like the fact that he loves football and his computer but the random important things that if I don't tell them, no-one will....To this day he … [Read more...]
Home is Where the Heart is….
Although I'm not usually a superstitious person, I'm convinced that our last house was jinxed. From the day we heard that our offer had been accepted until when we moved out it felt like bad things kept happening to us. In fact, in the two years that we lived there, my brother died, my mam died, someone crashed into both of our cars and totalled them while they were parked outside, our roof leaked, we found mould in the kitchen that the survey hadn't picked up, the gas company refused to install gas so we couldn't get central heating (cue massive heating costs), a giant crack appeared in the … [Read more...]
What I don’t want my children to know….
I want what every parent wants - for my children to grow up feeling safe and loved but also confident and independent. I think I've mastered the safe and loved bit but as a natural born worrier, I have to try really hard to encourage the kids to be confident and independent which is really difficult for me. I never want them to know how much I worry when they play out with their friends and I can't see them, or how my heart's in my mouth when they ride their bikes too fast or even how it breaks my heart when one of them comes home upset because they've fallen … [Read more...]
Gadgets – I love you….
GADGET: 1) a small mechanical device or appliance or 2) any object that is interesting for its ingenuity or novelty rather than for its practical use. When I saw that the subject of this week's Friday Club was gadgets, I couldn't wait to tell you all about my favourite ones but then I decided to tell my gadgets how much I love them and the reasons why instead ;-) Dear Slow CookerYou're awesome, I love being able to fill you up on a morning and know that by the time I get home in the afternoon you will have filled the house with lovely tasty smells and have tea ready to … [Read more...]
Dear Children….
When I read that the Friday Club prompt for this week was to share five things I want my children to know about me, I thought I might give this one a miss because I really couldn't think of five things that they don't already know. Then, a post I read over at Typecast about making memories for our children made me think about what my first memory was which made me realise that my memories aren't written down anywhere. My children and their children will be able to look back at my blog and remember lots of the fun and special moments we had together but I can't do that, I just have whats … [Read more...]
Special Things….
If I asked you to choose one cherished object from your house and write about it, do you think you could? Do you think you could choose just one thing? No, me neither! When I read that the prompt was for this weeks Friday Club was ' a cherished object in your home', I knew I was going to have problems narrowing it down and I spent last night wandering round the house with the camera round my neck. Thanks for that Ella ;-) Only joking - it's a great idea for a theme and I actually had a lovely night with Miss Frugal talking about our special things, she loves to hear the story behind … [Read more...]
