After I’d shared the five free trials with you, I cheekily added in a 60 day trial of the tastecard which, although it cost £1, was almost free and well worth it when you considered the amount of money you could save if you ate out even just once in that 60 day period.
I ordered my own at the time I wrote the post as it sounded like a great deal and it arrived just before we went on holiday. I ended up putting in my purse and forgetting about it until last week when Miss Frugal suggested we go out for tea when the boys went to the Boro match.
I downloaded the app on my phone and searched for the restaurants nearby that were part of the tastecard promotion – I was spoilt for choice with Chiquitos, Pizza Express, Frankie and Benny’s and about four other smaller places. The majority were offering 2 for 1 on meals but some had 50% off the overall bill.
We went for Chiquitos as we love a meal in there but the prices add up so quickly so we don’t end up there very often at all!
As we walked in, I mentioned to the waitress that we would be using the tastecard, she just laughed and told us that most people did these days! We were sat quite close to the till area and while we were in there, I saw two other people use a tastecard – that might not seem like much but it was a quiet Tuesday night so those two people plus probably made up about a third of the customers that night!
The Chiquitos offer with tastecard is two for the price of one on all courses from the main menu so we ordered fajitas each for our main course….
And seeing as we’d saved so much on our main course, we ordered two cheeky puddings to share….
When we presented out tastecard before paying, it magically wiped out £20 from our bill as it deducted one main course and one pudding. Take into account that Miss Frugal had offered to pay for the drinks, and that meant we had a gorgeous meal in a restaurant with a lovely atmosphere – more important than that though, we took our time and spent the entire time the match was on just catching up and laughing together. That’s priceless but the meal itself definitely added to it, especially as it was half price.
It’s not just meals out that you can save on though, there’s also 40% at cinemas, discounts at hotels, cheap tickets for days out and much, much more.
I’d definitely recommend trying this for the trial at least – so far I’ve saved £20 for my £1 purchase and I have no doubt that I’ll use it again during the trial period although I’m in two minds about actually buying it once the trial expires.
