I can’t believe it’s already that end of January!
At the end of last year, I had an idea that I wanted to do a bit of a post at the end of each month to share some of my favourite pictures of the month along with a bit of a life update so I added a note to my calendar for today.
I planned to share with you a selection of wonderful photos and lots of great news about the things we’ve achieved during this last month. But… as often happens with life, things don’t go according to plan.
Apart from me, the rest of the house have been plagued with that horrible bug on and off since the week before Christmas. When they weren’t actually ill, they were so wiped out from being ill that there was no energy spare for anything other than school.
Honestly, I think they’ve had it three times each now and even though I know the doctors can’t help with it, I did give them a call after three weeks and two re-occurrences of the illness because the kids both looked and felt awful. I had a chat with the doctor over the phone and he confirmed what I already knew about just having to ride it out but he did also tell me that it was common for it to keep coming back because once you’ve had it once, you’re weak and more susceptible to it the next time around.
We’ve been clear now for about five days now so I have everything crossed that we’ve seen the back of it now which leaves me with two still wiped out but on the mend children who have a LOT of sleep to catch up on. I kept Master Frugal off school one-day last week because he was like a walking zombie from all the sleep he’s missed with being ill. He laid on the settee and slept from 8.30 until 2.15 and then still slept again at bedtime.
So, that means that my first ‘That was…’ post is basically a non-starter!
We managed a trip to the woods one afternoon and that’s about it for family outings and anything we did that was of interest!
I’m hopeful that next month’s post will be more exciting to read!
In other news, Master Frugal has chosen his options at the grand old age of 12! He’s too young to be having to choose in my opinion but apparently, the GCSE exams are getting harder so they choose them earlier so they have an extra year to work towards them. He’s chosen Engineering, Italian and Health and Fitness as his three choices although he was a bit gutted that he couldn’t do PE as well as Engineering but they were in the same option box so it was one or the other. He went for Engineering in the end as they do a set amount of PE anyway so at least he’ll still be doing some of his favourite subject. I’m really pleased with his choices and deliberately had no influence over them as he’ll be studying them for the next three years so I wanted them to be all his choice.
Miss Frugal is doing great at school too although nothing of interest to report really. She’s going skiing at the end of March with them so as you can imagine, she’s really looking forward to that.
Mr Frugal is still struggling with his Vertigo, hearing loss and tinnitus and has stopped wearing his hearing aid after a spate of Vertigo attacks. We were really positive a few months ago and thought that the hearing aids in addition to a medical procedure he had done would really make a difference as the first week or so definitely showed an improvement. The doctor feels confident that he can do something to help and has given us appointments for two different clinics for more tests which he thinks will give him the information he needs to treat Mr Frugal successfully. It’s just a case of waiting!
And as for me, I’m just plodding along. 😉
I’m juggling quite a lot at the moment so I’m really trying to take time for myself more which I hope will help me manage everything I have on right now. I’m planning to spend as much time as I can in the next few weeks trying to get as much work done on my degree course so I can at least have one less thing to juggle. 😉
And that, ladies and gentleman, was January!
