Happy 1st March!
At the end of last year, I decided that it would be a nice idea to do a post once a month giving you a bit of an update on our lives. I added a reminder to my calendar for the first of every month and planned to share a round-up of all the fun we’ve had as a family throughout the month.
January’s update wasn’t as much family fun as is was struggling to get through the month but I had high hopes for February’s update post as we had a good five days with everyone free of the lurgy at the end of January.
Let’s see how we got on shall we?
Last month I reported how ill everyone in the house had been since just before Christmas and I’m pleased to say that for the most part, everyone stayed germ-free. Everyone but me that is!
After missing rounds one, two and three of the bug circling around the household, it caught me and I completely understand why people the kids spend most of January either ill or exhausted. I literally wiped me out for the best part of a weel and even now, I still have a cough and the croaky voice from it.
Which basically means that the first week of the month was spent with everyone but me feeling a bit low on energy with no enthusiasm for doing anything other than relaxing in the house and the last week spent with me being wiped out!
Don’t feel sorry for us though, we’ve had a brilliant month all thing considered and March is shaping up to be an even better one!
Miss Frugal finally got her carpet replaced in her bedroom and she LOVES how it looks! We got a great deal from shopping around and it’s inspired me to finally get a quote to get our hall, stairs and living room carpets replaced – something I can’t wait to do but just need to wait a little longer for Monty to calm down so I know he’s not going to wreck it as soon as it’s down. I think it would be OK now to be honest as he’s a good boy but I just want to be on the safe side.
We’re now on the final countdown for Miss Frugal to go skiing with the school so excitements pretty high about that although I’ll be a lot happier when I’ve tracked down everything she needs to take with her – it’s like a blooming scavenger hunt and I’m convinced they’ve thrown a few red herrings in. 😉
Master Frugal is doing great with nothing much to report in his world unless you want me to tell you about how many goals he scored playing FIFA or defended against playing on the field with his friends. He’s turning 13 this month so I’m trying to give him more freedom and let him be more independent which I definitely think he’s enjoying.
We’ve had some amazing news as far as Mr Frugal’s vertigo is concerned! The specialist he’s been seeing has diagnosed him with BPPV which is a form of vertigo that can often be treated. He had a very odd sounding treatment last week which consists of a series of movements intended to manoeuvre some cells that were out of place in his ear into the right place. Everything about the manoeuvre was textbook apparently – he felt the right things at the right time and then at the end he described feeling a dropping sensation which the doctor says was the cells dropping into place.
Apparently, this procedure stops the symptoms of vertigo the first time it’s done 85% of the time, and even when it doesn’t it can be repeated so hopefully, we could be seeing the back of vertigo which will be life-changing. He’s still got the tinnitus but there’s a clinic that can help him cope with that which he had to cancel due to the snow this week so we need to wait for a new appointment.

Now it’s my turn!
At the start of the month, I went to a black tie awards meal at the start of the month which was a great night with some lovely people. It wasn’t even the awards night that was the fun part, it more the getting ready with some lovely ladies in a very posh hotel with a couple of drinks.
I bought a new (to me) car which was an absolute bargain! It’s a Mini Cooper and I absolutely love it but I’ll explain more about it next week as I’m currently having a heart vs head debate about whether it’s the car for me.
Then I spent Valentines Day with a very good friend who I always spend Valentines Day with and followed that with a lovely girlie drinks night that left me with an aching face and stomach from laughing that much.
I’ve spent lots of time working on my degree in February too and I’m so close to finishing it now that I think March will be the month when I finish it completely which will be amazing as it’s one less thing on my plate. Looking back, I may have taken on too much when I started that because of all of the other things I have on but now I’m nearing the end I’m really pleased that I went for it.
Monty and Buddy are doing great – they’re still not friends but that’s because Monty is a little ball of energy who’s into everything and Buddy is a grumpy old man. I’m still hopeful that when Monty settles a little then Bud will see that he’s not so bad but in the meantime, I’ve accepted that I’m not going to get a cute photo of them snuggling together to share on Instagram. 😉
That, ladies and gentleman, was February in the Frugal house!
