Master Frugal is a huge wrestling fan so imagine how excited he was when we were asked if we wanted to go along to the Metro Arena in Newcastle on Thursday to watch WWE Live!
From the day he found out we were going he was counting down the sleeps but, I think I was actually more excited than he was because I had a secret – I knew that the lovely, lovely people behind the WWE Live tour had arranged for him to meet one of the Superstars backstage. Honestly, it killed me not telling him but I knew if we managed to keep it a secret it would be such a great surprise.
So we got there early on the night (after a lovely family day at the Metro Centre) and we were taken backstage where we were sat with Jermaine Defoe and the cast of Geordie Shore who were all very lovely and not what I expected at all.
Master Frugal was looking a bit nervous by this point as he wasn’t sure at all what to expect but then in walked Goldust (a famous WWE wrestler if you weren’t aware ;-)). I can’t tell you how impressed I was with Goldust who paid as much attention (if not more) to the kids than he did to the VIPs in the room. He happily posed for photos with everyone and after a chat with us all he left the room but not without having a special chat with Master Frugal who was completely starstruck and could barely talk.
The expression on his face when he shook hands and chatted with someone who he’s cheered for on TV was just priceless and something I know he won’t ever forget.
We left the VIP room not long after that – partly because we felt like fraudsters in there with the rest of the guests but mainly because we were dying to get to our seats and see where we were sat.
Our seats were amazing and right at the front behind the disabled row and we had an awesome view of the ring. Master Frugal was enthralled by it all and was quite happy educating me about who we wanted to win in each match and why we didn’t like certain wrestlers. He was getting really into it and when wrestlers like Randy Orton, John Cena and Dean Ambrose were on stage he just couldn’t believe that we were right there watching them. He was gutted that Goldust lost his match but even that didn’t put a dampener on the night – I don’t think anything could have done that!
If I’m honest, I don’t enjoy watching wrestling on TV very much but I loved WWE Live! The atmosphere was amazing and the wrestlers really know how to keep the crowd entertained. I surprised myself joining in with the chanting and screaming along with the rest of the crowd and even though I probably won’t be watching it on TV (unless Goldust is on) I wouldn’t hesitate to go along to a WWE Live event in future.
Master Frugal hasn’t stopped smiling about it all yet and he’s definitely got some stories to tell his friends when he goes back to school on Monday. He’s now an even bigger wrestling fan than he was before and this afternoon we’re going to spend his pocket money on a Goldust wrestling figure! 😉
