The Gallery – My Inspiration….

My mam died five years ago next month and there hasn’t been a day gone by since then that I haven’t missed her.

I miss her so much and even now, it hurts me when I think about how much of the children’s lives she’s missing out on. Sometimes I just want to stamp my feet and scream that it’s not fair that she died. I don’t know if I’ll ever stop wanting to pick up the phone to tell her some small thing that’s happened during the day or if I’ll ever stop talking to her like she’s still here with me but I do know that one of the reasons I miss her so much is because she was my inspiration. She made me who I am today, she taught me how to be a good person and brought me up with all of the values I want to teach my children.

When I saw that the theme of the Gallery this week was inspirational people, I knew I wanted to introduce you to a very special person. So, here’s my Mam, still the biggest inspiration in my life:

On holiday when I was about 7 – I didn’t dare take it out of the frame as it’s been in there for years.

At my wedding in 2000 with Mr Frugal looking on, no doubt wondering what he was marrying into

Brought a tear to my eye thinking about my own mam also not with us anymore. I have that thing about missing phoning her with bits of news, silly things but things I would have shared. Your mam looks such a good laugh. On my wedding day, my mum said something to my husband like "Cuddle up in this photo cos you're on of us now" and he looked suitably worried. Lovely post and really gorgeous photos

Awwww your post made me cry. I sooooo relate to what your saying, I lost my Mum five years ago too and it doesn't get any easier to cope with does it. Lovely photos of your Mum...she looks so much fun. Sending you a knowing hug x

The initial pain does goes away but then it comes back again when you want to share something or when something happens that you know they would have loved to have seen .

Well cass your mum diod an awesoem job and raise dyou someone who is kind, funny, shaarp, a caring, careful considerate mum who adores her children and raises them to know how great they are. She is I am sure immensly proud of you too. Big hiugs my fireind. I know its hard. My mums been gone a yera now: still heartbroken.

YOu know what I am so jealous! I love to hear about people who really have a bond with their mothers because I have no idea how they manage it, and really want it to be different between me and my daughter. I am really tempted to write a post about relationships with mothers, but daren't because my Mum reads my blog and I just don't want to open that can of worms. What was it about her that makes you feel this bond?

I know what you mean about wanting your relationship with your daughter to be close, I'm really close to my daughter now and at the minute she talks about everything with me and I'm dreading the teenage years in case that changes.

I'm going to be like my mam was with me (I hope) - She listened when I needed her too, never judged me and was always there. She had a way of knowing when I didn't want to talk and just quietly let me know she was there for me without actually saying anything if you know what I mean.

It would be good to write about your relationship with you mam - you could always use one of the blognonymous blogs to publish your post - that's what a lot of people do. Ask @nickie72 about it x

I can't even begin to imagine how you feel, it must be difficult at time. It sounds like you had an amazing bond with your mother, treasure that memory.

Your mum would be so proud of you and the kids, I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to not have your mum around to share things with, it must be so hard for you. She looks like the life and soul of the party and Mr Frugal's face is a picture in your wedding pic! x

Ah thanks very much, I'm crying more at reading these comments that I did writing the post!

Poor Si's face was like that from start to finish I think ;-) Starting when he saw me walking down the aisle (or corridor thing as it was at Gretna Green) and noticing that it wasn't the Wedding March playing but a Westlife song and ending when the hotel we had the reception at played Cliff Richard Congratulations when we left - he was mortified!

Can totally relate as I lost my Mum six years ago. My stomach still lurches when I think of her ... my heart still aches. I'm sure she'd be so proud of you and yours ... I hope my Mum is of me. Sucks though doesn't it! x

I'm lucky enough to still have my mum , and I have a good relationship with her, but my dad died 16 years ago, when I was pregnant with my younger daughter. His last words in the ambulance were ' Don't tell Scarlet, don't upset her'. As I had already lost 2 babies - the first to a 2nd trimester miscarriage and the second to an ectopic pregnancy, he didn't want me to worry. Even though he was in the throes of a massive heart attack he was still worrying about me as he was scared that I would lose KL. The guilt that I feel will never leave me.

Aw you should not feel guilty at all - he loved you so much that he thought of you over himself. I bet it made things easier for him too if he focused on you rather than what was happening to him. I think when someone so close to you dies there's always something you can feel guilt about - did I say I love you the last time I saw them, did I do enough but ultimately, they loved you and you loved them and you should only focus on the good bits x x
