Everywhere I look right now, I see someone trying that Tik Tok Tomato and Feta Pasta so yesterday I decided to give it a go.
Before I do though, let me tell you why I’m jumping on the bandwagon… 😂 Basically, over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying out random life hacks and recipes that I’ve seen on social media to see if they really work for us normal people. So far I’ve tried a two-ingredient slow cooker cake, an idea to customise candles with paper napkins and ideas to make my iPhone speaker louder – all of which have had varying degrees of success and are ready to be written up to be shared with you guys.
When Miss Frugal asked if we could try this for tea yesterday, it felt like a good thing to start the series off so here we are.
How to make Tik Tok Tomato and Feta Pasta
So, the basic idea behind this dish is that you place a block of feta cheese in a baking dish with a whole bunch of cherry tomatoes, drizzle with olive oil and pop in the oven until the cheese is soft and the tomatoes are slightly mushy. When it’s ready you give it a quick stir so the cheese mixes in with the tomatoes and then add in your favourite pasta.
It looks simple and the results look delicious online so we were pretty sure we could do this! I’m not going to share a proper recipe because the beauty of this is that it’s just a throw it all in a pan kind of meal but basically, you just need to pop the block of feta cheese in a baking tray and throw your tomatoes in around it. Then drizzle it with olive oil (I used chilli-infused olive oil to add even more flavour). You can add a bit of chopped garlic and some seasoning in as well for even more flavour – we used Italian Seasoning which is mixed herbs and garlic based…
I cooked mine in the oven at 200c for around 23 minutes which is how long it took until the tomatoes were ready and starting to burst from their skins a little bit but recipes online say anything from 20-30 minutes for this stage. Cook your pasta at this stage so it’s ready when the tomatoes and feta are cooked.
Next up is the mashing stage so mash the cheese and tomatoes together and give them a good stir together until it resembles a sauce and then add your pasta in scoop by scoop until you get it to where you want it to be.
So, was the Tik Tok Tomato and Feta Pasta worth a go? Absolutely. It was super simple without needing a recipe and tasted really lovely so we’ll definitely try it again.
