This is my menu plan for the week. I usually do my weeks plan on a Friday ready for shopping on a Saturday but I am a bit late this week as we have had a houseguest staying with us this week.
I try and get Miss Frugal to do it with me to help her with her writing and to have fun in the kitchen with her as I really want to encourage her to learn to cook and to enjoy being in the kitchen with me.
This weeks plan is very bitsy as I am trying to use up all of the little bits in the cupboards and the freezer and I thought that with me being off work again this was the ideal week to use up the odds and ends as I won’t mind cooking three different meals on some nights.
Thursday and Friday are a bit vague because I know I need to use the chicken and the sausages but I have no clue what I am going to do. I am going to have a nice relaxing browse through my recipe book collection when I get the chance and I will choose something a bit different to make.
Wednesday’s tea is ‘Mush’ which is my husband’s speciality back from his days in the ‘scouts’. I don’t mind sharing the recipe for mush with you but I have to tell you that it tastes way, way nicer than it sounds!
Ingredients: Tin of Bacon Grill, Eggs, Baked Beans…..
Cook the Bacon Grill as per the instructions on the tin and at the same time heat the baked beans and make scrambled eggs with the eggs (How the heck does Mr Frugal manage to multi task and cook three things at once!). When everything is cooked chop up the bacon grill into small pieces and mix it together with the beans, add the scrambled egg, mix it all up together and serve. Then wait for your wife to come along and clean all of the pans that you have used.
I’ve been watching BBC 2’s Economy Gastronomy and I want to start to cook more from scratch which is why I am having a use up week ready for my new Economy Gastronomy meal planning to start. I am also going to use this week to search out some good meals that are easy to prepare but can be either frozen for another time or can be used for leftovers.
