So here’s the thing… Every January for the past three years, I’ve joined Slimming World and lost around a stone each time.
I’ve been having a think about why I never seem to stick to it for longer than it takes me to lose a stone because I really want this January to be different and I’ve realised that I absolutely have a pattern.
I get to the point where I’m a stone down and I’m starting to be able to see a difference in myself and feel good but I find excuses why I need a weekend or a week off of watching what I eat. Last year it was New York with the kids, the year before I was poorly and the year before that I had a weekend away with my friend.
I’ll tell myself that I’m just going to miss one week of Slimming World but looking back, that turns to two weeks and then three. I can hear the conversations that I’ve had with myself in my head now…
I’ll start again next week and be right back on it!
It’s so easy that I can lose any weight that I put back on in no time.
One more week isn’t going to make THAT much of a difference!
The good news is that the weight I’ve lost each year has stayed off which is one thing to be thankful for!
And also, now that I’ve realised that I’ve got a pattern, I can see what’s coming and stop it from happening this year!
So this year, I have hopes of being able to go for longer than just the stone off but you know what? A stone off is a stone off so I’m going to try as hard as I can now, try and get past my usual roadblocks and fingers crossed I’ll keep at it. I had a chat with my lovely Slimming World consultant when I re-joined on Saturday (there’s a voucher to get a free joining fee in Woman magazine this week) and I really feel like I can do it.
I’m not sure how much I’ll share on here for now as I can’t imagine it makes interesting reading for anyone not on Slimming World but seeing as it’s week one, I thought you might like to see my menu plan for the week.
I’m only going to write Monday to Friday this week as I’m going to be gathering ideas all week for the weekend and next week’s meals so I’ll go shopping after the group on Saturday and take it from there.
I’ve written up some of the recipes I’ll be using in the past:
- Overnight Oats
- Mini egg omelettes
- Chickpea Dahl loaf (1/2 syn per two muffins)
- Slimming World wrap pizza
Another thing I realised that led to me giving up in the past was that I wasn’t always as organised as I could have been. I didn’t plan breakfasts and lunches too much which meant that I had to just go with whatever was on hand – usually a jacket potato with beans from work.
To help me this time, I’m trying to be more organised so I made the mini omelettes and the chickpea dahl muffins on Saturday and popped them in the freezer so I can just get them out the night before I need them.
Wish me luck!
