Over the last month or so, Master Frugal has started sneaking into our bed in the middle of the night and snuggling in between us. He’s such an expert at it now that he can climb in, get himself under the quilt and manage to half push one of us out of the bed before we wake up.
There doesn’t seem to be any underlying reason for him wanting to sleep with us, it’s just that when he gets up in the night to go to the toilet, he uses the bathroom in our room and when he’s done, I think ours is the closest bed! We send him back to bed as soon as we notice he’s in with us (most of the time) and he never complains or whinges, he just gives us a kiss and trots off back to his own bed.
We’ve tried telling him before he goes to bed that he’s not allowed to climb in our bed and that he needs to go back to his own when he’s been to the toilet but it does no good as he’s half asleep when he climbs in with us. I reallydo think his main concern is getting back into bed, any bed, so he can get to sleep again as soon as possible which makes it difficult to break his new habit.
So, short of shutting our bedroom door when we’re in bed, which I really don’t want to do, I don’t think that there’s much I can do about it other than just let him grow out of it although if anyone has any suggestions I’d be glad to hear them.
Would you, or do you let your child sleep in the same bed as you?
