Is there anything you wouldn’t give up to save money?
That’s a pretty tongue in cheek title because there’s actually nothing that I wouldn’t give up if it was a choice between that or paying my bills and feeding my family.
But if I look at my current situation, which is debt free and trying to save for our emergency fund whilst overpaying our mortgage each month, there are things in my life that I won’t give up without a fight…
Giving these three things up would obviously give us more money to put towards our goals each month and would build up the emergency fund and pay down the mortgage that bit quicker. But I have a really strong belief that life is for living and you shouldn’t have to give up everything to achieve your financial goals.
You’ll still get to where you want to be and, even though it will undoubtedly take you longer I can guarantee you’ll have so much more fun along the way.
And just to be clear, the point of this post is not to show off or be judged for what I like spending my money on. It’s to share that no matter how frugal I want to be and how much I want to achieve what I would class as ‘financial freedom’, I want to enjoy myself on the journey getting there.
That’s just me though and I completely get if you would rather power on through, focus everything on your goals to achieve them as soon as you can. I’ll catch up with you at some point!
Travel
Would you think I was being really corny if I tell you that travel is good for my soul? I’d probably laugh and roll my eyes if someone told me that their passion was good for their soul. 😉
Honestly, travelling makes me happy in a way that I can’t describe and I know that in years to come, I’ll look back on the memories that I’ve made travelling and remember them so much more than anything I actually own.
Getting my nails done
Moving on, I thought I’d follow that deep and meaningful ‘travel is good for my soul’ with something much more superficial – my nails!
I love getting my nails done and feel so much more confident about myself when I have them done as I’ve always been quite conscious that my hands look really old. Sad I know but if having my nails done every month makes me feel good about myself then I’m all good with it.
Experiences
This is quite a new one for me as I would rarely spend money on things like concerts and stand up comedians but at the start of this year, Mr Frugal and I decided that we were going to spend more time together doing things that don’t include Netflix or card games. 😉
So that’s three things that I wouldn’t want to give up – what would you not give up?
