As much as I don’t like the ever increasing commercialism of Valentines Day, I do actually like the day itself and the idea behind it. We never spend a fortune on gifts and we don’t bother with cards but we do buy small gifts for each other and I always buy the kids something silly too!
Around this time over the last few years I’ve written about how to be a cheap date and how to keep your romance alive on a budget and I’ve also shared my top 50 frugal date ideas with you but this year, I thought I’d share something different with you.
This year, I want to focus on ways to love yourself – I want you to find a way to spoil yourself this Valentines weekend. It might not be easy to get some time to yourself but with a bit of planning I bet you could get yourself even just an hour! 😉
Obviously there are more extravagant ways to spoil yourself but I’m going to focus on my five favourite simple ‘me’ time things to do….
Buy a magazine – I bought a magazine that I used to buy all of the time the other day and actually sat down and read it in peace with a cup of tea.
Have a bath in peace with the door shut – I don’t know about you but as soon as I step into the bath, one of the kids needs my urgent attention or wants to share their day with me. Obviously this is lovely but sometimes it would be nice to just be able to shut the door and enjoy a bath in peace.
Have a pamper night – We’ve a few of our own mini pamper nights before and they’re so much fun. They can be as cheap or expensive as you like!
Phone (or visit) a friend – Catch up with a friend by making time to give them a call. Even better if you arrange it in advance and your friend can arrange some me time for themselves too.
Watch a film you’ve been wanting to see – I always end up watching films that the kids want to see but every now and again it’s nice to watch a film just for me.
What do you to when you need a treat?
