We have an amazing ‘Pick Your Own’ farm about half an hours drive from where we live and it’s amazing with fields full of strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, tayberries and even some green beans – all great quality and much better than you would buy in your local supermarket.
Last weekend was our first visit there this season and we weren’t disappointed! We had great hour or so finding the best looking fruit to fill our little baskets with and competing to see who could find the best looking strawberry (I won obviously) and came away with loads of fruit – all for the the grand total of £6.60.
We got two baskets like this for the £6.60 that we paid which is great value if you ask me, especially if you consider that we paid 40p each for the baskets themselves. We’ll take them back next time we go to use again though so even they’re worth the money – it’s much more fun filling one of those than a bag for life as one lady was doing. 😉
As always, there was a mix of people there – people who just wanted a single punnet of strawberries, people who were picking pounds of fruit and families like us who are just there for the fun really.
And if you need any more persuasion, here’s a few reasons why you really should visit your local pick your own farm:
- You’re supporting a local farm.
- You’re teaching your children where the food they eat comes from.
- It’s cheaper than an hour at soft play.
- It’s great value for money.
- It’s so much fun to pick your own fruit.
- The fruit is a higher quality than you’ll find in your local supermarket (in my experience anyway).
- There’s just something satisfying about eating fruit that you’ve picked yourself.
Have you ever picked your own fruit or veg?
