Have you noticed that it’s been a bit quiet around here this week?
That’s because last Thursday we decided to have a last minute cheeky week away so we booked a late deal to Pontins in Southport and that’s where we’ve been since Saturday night. We have no TV (actually we have one but it’s broken and the three visits to reception haven’t resulted in a working TV), the Wifi is practiclly non existent and half the time we can’t even get reception on our phones to send a text message but thinking about it, that’s probably why we’re having so much fun!
We’ve managed to find more games that you can imagine to play with just a pen and paper (I’m sure there’s a future blog post in that somewhere), we’ve had family rounders games on the grass outside our apartment with some of the other families in our block, we’ve explored the town, met a shark or two, been on a BMX track, had picnics on the beach and conquered Miss Frugal’s fear of piers (don’t ask)so all in all, our little break’s been a big success so far – and we still have another three days to go!
I remember when I was growing up I used to walk home from school and half way home my Mam would meet me and tell me to hurry as we were going away for the weekend – usually to Blackpool but often to other places around the country and it always makes me smile when I remember the site of my Mam running down the road to meet me. I used to know straight away that it meant something fun was about to happen and I won’t ever forget the fun we had when we went on our weekends away. I think that’s why I like having little breaks away with my own family now – I like to think that we’re making the same sort of memories that my Mam and Dad made for me when I was growing up.
Mr Frugal is the exact opposite and sometimes it’s almost as though he would rather stay at home but it’s actualy because before we met when he lived at home, his house was burgled. He doesn’t talk about it much other than to say that nothing of his was really taken but he did tell me once that it was more the thought of people going through his things that bothered him. To me, things are just things and I’m not sure that being burgled would affect me in the same way. We have more than adequate home insurance and as long as my memory sticks with all my precious photographs on are left alone then I’d be OK. I think.
Anyway, I’m sat right now in a room filled with teenagers playing computer games in something called the Game Zone and I’m pretty sure everyone can see what I’m writing as the monitors here are about the size of our TV at home which is why I won’t go into much detail about what we think of Pontins until we get home 😉
