OK, so I know Lent officially started on Wednesday but better late than never, hey?
What’s the one thing you can give up between now and the 3rd of April that’s going to save you money?
In a way, you’re lucky I’m late to the party because if you do decide to join in, you’ve had a few bonus days to enjoy whatever it is you’re going to give up and you’ve only got 38 days to go until the end of Lent.
Shall we start with me telling you what I’m going to give up? I’ve got three things…
1) Alcohol
This one isn’t too difficult if I’m being honest as I’ve not had much alcohol at all since Christmas and even then it wasn’t much at all – the odd Baileys or glass of gin and lemonade here and there but that’s about it. I do miss going out for a cocktail or two with the girls though…
2) Dresses
Ever since I discovered Snag tights (they’re the ones that never roll down no matter how big your tummy is) I’ve been a bit dress obsessed and although I never pay a fortune for a dress and I can’t actually go physically shopping right now, I do keep an eye out on my favourite online charity shops and on eBay to see if any nice dresses pop up and I probably buy one a fortnight.
My standard uniform is a pair of black tights and a dress – even when I’m working from home. When I started working from home more, I did originally start wearing tracksuit bottoms and snuggly tops and jumpers but I just didn’t feel ‘ready’ if that makes sense so I went back to dresses and tights and felt so much better! This is one of my recent charity shop buys…
3) Starbucks
I don’t spend a fortune on Starbucks but I have been spending more than I’d like to. It’s partly because there’s a Starbucks in the office where I work but mainly because it’s been super cold on a morning when I’ve been driving to work and I’ve been stuck in traffic so much due to floods, snow and ice over the last month or so. I drive right by a Starbucks drive-thru just before I get onto the road where the traffic always is so if I know there’s traffic (someone from work usually gives me a heads up) I’ll often stop in and treat myself to a hot drink ready for the drive.
I did consider taking a hot drink in a travel mug but I only ever drink if I’m in traffic and I usually don’t know until I’ve already set off so I’m just going to go cold turkey as far as my morning hot drinks are concerned. I could make a cheeky smoothie to take to work in my Starbucks cup though… 😂
So now you know what I’m giving up for Lent, what are you going to give up?
