We’ve just got back from a last minute weekend cheap weekend away and although we had an amazing time, there was no Wi-Fi and practically no signal anywhere in the whole area which meant a long weekend with almost no internet access. I’d love to be able to say that life without the internet was all good and that I didn’t miss it at all but I’d be lying!
As a blogger, I really missed not being able to check in on here and make sure everything was ticking over and I obviously missed being able to check in on Facebook and share my photos with you all on Instagram but they weren’t the main reasons that I missed being able to get online….
I missed being able to watch the John Lewis advert on YouTube because I kept hearing people say how good it was and I didn’t want to wait till it came on TV.
I missed being able to search for things I needed to know on Google like why Simon Cowell had a bruise in his face on X Factor (which I was only because the lack of internet meant that I couldn’t watch Netflix).
I missed being able to search for my nearest supermarket or shop when I really needed some shampoo as it was sat at home on the kitchen counter where Mr Frugal had forgotten to pack it! The fact we were in the middle of nowhere meant that we really did drive around for miles to find a shop and I’m not even going to get into our journey to try and find a cash machine!
I missed not being able to Google how old Nicole Kidman was after she came on TV on an advert and looked amazing.
I missed not being able to pause TV while I go for a wee (that’s internet related isn’t it?).
I missed not being able to search online for the telephone number of the holiday park reception because I’d folded up the leaflet thing to use to stop the table from wobbling and couldn’t be bothered to walk to the reception to ask what time the swimming pool was open (in my defence it was pouring down and it had taken ages to make the table non wobbly).
I even missed the silence that usually happens when the kids are playing on their phones!
I’m embarrassed to say that at least twice over the weekend I was THAT person who was wandering around the holiday park with my phone in the air trying to find somewhere with a good signal so I could upload send a photo to my friend that I really wanted her to see!
I’m all about screen free family time and we often have self imposed electronics free time but not having the option to go online at all made me realise how much we take it for granted and not having it drove me loopy!
