We won the lottery last week!
Not enough that we can give up work or anything but the £5.90 we won is better in our pocket than someone elses isn’t it?
It did get us thinking though about what we would do if we did win a larger amount. What if we won, say £10,000, would we use it to pay off debts, mortgage and grown up stuff or would be go our and splurge on treats?
I know that the best thing to do would be to use all of it to be sensible but as I said to Mr Frugal when we were talking about it, I think I’d use some of it to go on holiday and maybe buy a new car and some new things for the house. The rest I’d put towards sensible things though so I’m not an entirely lost cause!
He was much more sensible than me and said that apart from a new bigger TV, he’d be sensible with the rest of the money and use it to pay bills and reduce the mortgage.

What would you do?
I do not do the lottery, Michael spends £4 every week on tickets and I put £4 every week into a savings account. He has won a few times and the money just evaporates, my money however has grown, just like Topsy , and I now have over £1200 waiting for my next trip to Australia to see my brother.
That's really interesting actually as we considered doing this once but decided against it as we thought that we should be in it to win it lol – we've never won more than £10 though and you're right, a smaller amount does just get frittered away!
I'd pay all debts off first (luckily mine are less than 10k!), then divide the rest between myself, my husband, my two children and Others. Others would be little gifts to people who are important in our lives, who help us out without question, etc. Charity would come under that group too.
Then we'd be able to use our own little bit of money to buy whatever we want. The boys, I'd spend some for them on things they need, a few things they want, and save the rest for the future. For me, I'd treat myself to Ugg boots (always wanted some, waaay too expensive for shoes in my opinion!), make-up and a new laptop (or rather, a laptop of my own! This one is my mother in laws).
Now that would be a good way to go and I love the idea of the Ugg boots – I'd buy some too if I could!
I’m afraid I would be boring and selfish and get our roof redone. Anything left may go on treats
As long as you got a good deal and had lots left over for treats
For any value, any level, I would like to think I'd give at least some of it away. I'm so blooming lucky in my life. Not everyone would agree with that statement if they knew my past but I know it to be true and I know how close it has been at times to not being good.
Apart from that, the practical person in me would agree with your other half but I do think you need some joy. I came into a small amount of money a little while ago. Not a lot, just some. I put most of it against the mortgage, kept 10% just for me which I ended up spending some on charity and the rest just got absorbed into nursery costs etc and went before I knew it and gave 10% to someone else. To be honest I wish I'd planned what I was going to spend it on more but glad I gave to charity.
It sounds like you spent your money wisely – a bit of everything
