So yesterday was Miss Frugal’s 11th birthday and we finally relented and bought her a goldfish.
As responsible goldfish owners-to-be we bought the tank and all the necessary fishy stuff a couple of weeks ago and started to prepare the tank as per Google’s instructions.
We very responsibly took a sample of our water to the fish shop to have it tested before we bought the fish and the lady said our water was perfect *proud face*.
Miss Frugal chose two Platy fish and the lady accidentally scooped in a tiny baby fish which she said we could have as well as it was the only other fish in the tank and we brought our new family members – Summer, Rocket and Jackson home.
They settled in well and Miss Frugal was really enjoying her new pets and then yesterday, we came home from our birthday meal out and the first thing she did was go say hello to the fish. Jackson is so tiny that it’s like Where’s Wally every time we look for him but the other two are always right there swimming about.
But we couldn’t find Summer anywhere yesterday.
We were all crowded around the tank at one point looking for her. I was convinced she was in there somewhere – it’s impossible for a fish to just disappear from a fish tank right? And then we spotted her laid on the floor to the side of the fish tank. She’d only bloody jumped out of the water!
I didn’t even know fish could jump and I can’t believe that she chose Miss Frugal’s actual birthday to teach us that lesson.
Thanks for that birthday memory Summer!
