When I was younger I had a really simple view of what life was going to be like when I grew up, I was going to meet the man of my dreams, have a huge white wedding, produce several very well behaved children and give up work while my well paid husband supported me.
However, as with lots of childhood dreams, it didn’t quite turn out that way, although I was lucky enough to find the almost perfect man!
Mr Frugal works really hard, often starting at 4am but he’s far from being well paid bless him. I have a pretty well paid job and earn almost double what he does, I work full time hours over a four day week so he picks the kids up from school and feeds them most nights and I get home in time to spend an hour with them before bedtime. I do have Thursdays and every weekend off so we make sure that we pack as much as we can in to those three days and I’m quite relaxed about bedtime on the days I have been at work as I like to spend as much time as possible with them. Mr Frugal does all the school uniforms and the packed lunches and most nights when I come in the house looks like something resembling tidy!
When we had Miss Frugal I was able to take six months off work and I managed to have a full year off with Master Frugal but as much as I would love to stay at home with the kids,I have no choice, I need to work full time.
Most of the time, I’m OK with this but today I’m not feeling it! The kids went to a fancy dress party and I missed it because I couldn’t finish work in time! It’s times like this when I wish I didn’t have to work and that Mr Frugal’s wage was enough to support us all.
And to top it all off, I thought the fancy dress party was pirates and princesses, hence the costumes above, but it was just pirates so Miss Frugal was the only one there who wasn’t dressed as a pirate! Not that she was bothered mind – in fact I think she enjoyed being a bit different to everyone else.
And while I’m having a whinge – not impressed with the pretend bogies and the soap that turns your hands black when you use it. Whatever happened to putting simple things like yo-yo’s and bouncy balls in party bags!
