I’m always telling you how much I LOVE my Kindle so it might surprise you that I’m actually a huge audiobook fan too! Today, I want to tell you why audiobooks are amazing and share with you how you can get a free one to try one out for yourself.
My Kindle is literally the best thing I’ve ever bought and my Kindle Unlimited subscription is probably the best money I spend every month as I’m a quick reader and I can go through a couple of books a week easily. I like to read at the end of the day as I find it a great way to switch off from the day and relax if I choose a nice easy to read book – usually a feel good happy ever after romance for my night time reading. 😍
I love other books too though – I really enjoy a good old autobiography and can’t get enough of motivational self help books! But I don’t enjoy at bedtime as I genuinely do just want a book I hardly have to think about at that time and for years, I just didn’t really have time at any other point in the day to enjoy other types of books.
Then last year, I discovered Blinkist who basically take all kinds of self help and motivational books and share the key points to the book in a 15 minutes easy to read or listen to summary. I won’t go into too much detail on that here as I wrote a full post last year about it and how to get a free trial of Blinkist to try it out. I’m mentioning it because I had a couple of the books summarised in an audiobook style and really enjoyed it which is where I discovered how much I could fit an audiobook into my life so I didn’t need to miss out on the other types of books I enjoyed.
I discovered how easily an audio book could fit in with my life and actually use up time that was kind of wasted time before.
My twice weekly 40 minute drive to work for example used to be time where I just listened to music whereas it’s actually a great time to listen to a motivational or self help audiobook and gets me really set up for the day. I stick to my music usually on the drive home though in the same way that I like my easy books at bedtime as it helps me relax and gives me chance to reflect on anything that’s happened in the day so by the time I get home, work is behind me.
Another time I enjoy listening to a book is when I’m cooking or pottering about in the kitchen, I’ll just have it playing on my Alexa so I can listen to it as I go. This is generally a good time for listening to autobiographies which I enjoy – more than when I read them as it’s usually the person who’s book it is who narrates it.
I did try listening to an audiobook when I’m on my exercise bike on a night but honestly, I need music with a good beat to help keep me going so I gave up listening to them on there. I actually did around half of the miles that I usually do in the 45 minutes that I do as I was more engrossed in the book than the cycling. 😂
So I started doing some digging on where I can get my audiobooks from and I’ll be honest, I didn’t have to look too far as it look like Audible are far and away the biggest audiobook site that I could find. They have a paid subscription service which gives you credits each month that you can use against any of their books but you can also use their Audible plus which includes all kinds o books, podcasts and Audible original books.
I’ll be honest though, I’ve never really used the Audible Plus part of the subscription as the audiobooks I’ve got as part of my subscription have been enough for me so far as I don’t get chance every day to listen.
There are two different offers at the moment that you might be interested in if you do want to sign up to Audible to claim your free audiobook – one is a 30-day free trial and one is 3 months for 99p! Both are great value if you ask me but I wish I’d gone for the 99p deal as I went for the completely free one as I wasn’t sure I’d use it and wanted to try it out before paying out anything – even 99p which was a mistake considering how much I’ve gone on to use it! 😂
(These are my affiliate links but I pay for Audible myself so I’m genuinely telling you about something I love)
And if you don’t fancy full on audiobooks then you can get just as much value out of podcasts which you can stream for free on so many sites. Apple, Amazon and Google all have free podcasts.
I love the Diary of a CEO and Happy Mum Happy Baby and do often choose them over my audiobooks.
